Who: The Turn is a rock band from the Rockville Centre region of Long Island. The band is led by singer and guitarist Brian Ripps and multi-instrumentalist and singer Pat McDermott.
The Band & Its Sound: From the band’s press notes: "Drawing influences from acts such as The Beatles, Queens of The Stone Age, Kings of Leon, and John Mayer, The Turn creates songs that follow in these famous footsteps, combining the pop sensibility that made them superstars, with the same soulful touch that made them icons.
"The partnership of lead singer/guitarist Brian Ripps and Pat McDermott on vocals, guitars and keyboards is the driving force behind the band, playing anywhere and everywhere in many shapes and forms, increasing their visibility and fan base and all the while gearing up their voices and instrument technique for the inevitable world tour to come.
"Their single ‘Christiana’ has already graced the airwaves at Q104.3 and 94.3 WMJC in New York and the sky is the limit for this hot commodity among the New York rock scene. In 2008, the band participated in and reached the final round of the Emergenza Festival, which included an earlier performance at Crash Mansion and culminated with a performance Webster Hall.
"They have performed-in many capacities, including gigs at The Mile Square in Hoboken, New Jersey; The Long Island Maritime Museum Seafood Festival; at JFK Plaza (Love Park) in Philadelphia; and at coffee houses, rock clubs, festivals and even at high schools and colleges.
From the Band’s Bio: "The Turn began in August 2007, Pat’s first summer home from college at the University of Michigan, when he stopped by his longtime friend Brian's house to find Brian jamming in the garage with a stable of other musicians. Pat had always been interested in music and spent a lot of time writing himself, but had also said that it had never occurred to him to start a band. Later that evening, while chatting online, Pat suggested to Brian that they combine their efforts and start a band. Brian said that he already had something developing with the three other musicians, but he wouldn't be averse to some parallel efforts with Pat. Pat responded to that with, ‘Let me be a part of whatever it is you're doing and I assure you we will create the best music possible. Two musicians with drive like ours, nothing will get in our way' The rest, as they say, is history.”
The band released a seven-song album, “Long Story Short,” which was produced, recorded, mixed and engineered by the veteran audio professional George Fullan at General Studios in Douglaston.
The Songs: "What It's Like To Feel Alive,” "Bells," “Did You Know," “Setting For A Fairytale,” "*68,"Mr. Impulsive," “Not To Worry."

Bio
The Turn is a guitar driven rock band that was founded by Brian Ripps and Patrick McDermott in August 2007. After releasing their first record "Long Story Short" that November, they took on a rigorous performance schedule as a two piece acoustic duo. They have appeared throughout the New York area as well as into New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Maryland. The two have been friends since early childhood, and their collective passion for music and performance is apparent and palpable upon meeting them. Their fans immediately recognize the rapport between them and their enthusiasm is infectious.
In December 2008, they returned to the studio to record their second EP "The December Sessions" and kept right on playing in support of that record. To date they have made nearly 550 appearances both as an acoustic duo and with the full band, and distributed close to 15000 copies of the two records.
In May 2009 they appeared at the NYC Walk for AIDS and on the strength of that performance were asked to perform in November at the ING NYC Marathon.
Currently, Brian and Patrick maintain a full slate, performing 20-25 times per month in any environment that they are called upon to appear in. Whether it's a bar, wedding, college, a fundraiser or any other event there is no limit to the entertainment they can provide behind a microphone.
