Houston/ATL?fs Rob Jay has just released his six songs EP ?gArt Life Of The Prelude?h as a sampler to his upcoming full length album ?gArt Life?h. Although all the tunes are good two standouts are ?gThe Director?fs Chair?h & ?gUncreatively Creative?h. They both contain that nice mid 90?fs Pharcyde sound.
?gWack sh*t is still wack sh*t even if it?fs something different?h
Uncreatively Creative
Vocally Rob Jay sounds like a combination of Kev Brown, Murs back in early days and a more vocally adept version of Kanye West. Although I wouldn?ft put Rob Jay in category of present day great emcees like Brother Ali or Royce da 5?Π9?? I think he indeed has a future in the music biz and has demonstrated he can make good solid Hip Hop.
From contemporary sounding tunes like ?gI?fm Nice ?h and ?gAddicted?h to indie inspired ?gArt Life?h Rob Jay has a nice mix of joints on this EP to introduce himself to the masses. He is one of the few artists from the south you should check out.

Music Connection Magazine would like to congratulate Rob Jay for being one of the top 100 unsigned artist of 2008 - Music Connection MAgazine
Rob Jay breaks the mold of southern rappers. Straight out of Atlanta Georgia, Jay does not resort to classic southern sound or raps, but takes it to a whole other level. With intense and intelligent lyricism, and great beats to match, it is no wonder Rob Jay has stood out in Atlanta's underground hip-hop circuit. You may recognize the melody of "Director's Chair" from a certain Mos Def song, but Rob puts his own flare on it, of course. Check it out below. - Urb Magazine
Straight from Houston, Texas reigns Rob Jay. Rob played his part prior to riding high on the waves of the underground Hip-Hop circuit in Atlanta, Georgia. Video Director at best but, Artist at heart, Mr. Jay took music much more seriously than most of the industry artists he assisted and helped direct videos for. Enjoying every angle of his craft, Rob tends to be different than his Southern counterparts. Which is quite rare for an MC of the South as we know today. Though there are plenty South lyrical greats such as T.I., Cee-Lo Green, Outkast, UGK, 8Ball & MGJ, you just don't see lyricism LIKE THIS anymore as much as you did in the mid 90's through early 2000's.
RJ just came off tour in the Middle East and has a few more projects in the works. If you would like to know more about his work, please visit his myspace page - www.icomposehits.com

Rob Jay makes dope music and if you need proof of that check him out in URB Magazine's Next 1000 section... there is nothing more that I could say because the songs speak for themselves. This track tells the story of the common man's battle with his most dangerous adversary... THE GROUPIE (I admit that last line sounds like something off of National Geographic) but nevertheless this is definitely worth the listen. - http://www.mikeymcfly.com/2009/04/rob-jay-directors-chair.html

Bio
Rob Jay, born Robert J. Mayberry IV, has been blazing through the underground circuit in Atlanta, Georgia. Dubbed by many as the fearless lyricist, he brings an insight and intelligence to the craft of hip hop that is a rarity in today’s music scene. Hailing from Houston, Texas, Rob Jay attended Florida A&M University and graduated with a degree in business administration before moving to Atlanta. While in school he found a passion for directing music videos which eventually lead to him starting a production company, Shyve Entertainment Group. He quickly grew his company and seemed poised to make a run at being one of the top music video directors in the game. Throughout his three year career he worked with clients including Lil Scrappy, Bonecrusher, and Vibe Magazine. Though he progressed as a director, artistically he began to feel unfulfilled. “It just seemed like all the videos that I was doing were the same, girls, cars and money. I felt like I wasn’t growing as an artist. The other thing that I hated was always having to wait on someone. I was always waiting on someone to get their record deal, or get their money right, or get their schedule together to do a video. I just got tired of waiting, that’s when I figured hey I can record my own music and shoot videos for those songs. At least I know that they will get done and they will be something original.” This led to him recording his first single “Party Girl” a warning to men and an intelligent ode to women who want to live the socialite lifestyle. What started out as a mission to record one song soon became the development of a conceptual album, Art Life.
Art Life chronicles Rob Jay’s mission to find fulfillment through creating a product that allows him to sustain as an artist. Throughout this mission he finds himself talking about everything from spirituality to entrepreneurship to politics before completing his vision of securing the Art Life not only for himself but for his generation. “I really feel like I have my finger on the pulse of my generation right now” says Rob Jay. His short term goals are getting his music distributed and spreading his Art Life message to as many people as possible.
