Got a preview of Robinson Treacher's first solo release, "Chrome", from a friend. She asked that I not reveal her name, but that she was so into the tunes that she had to pass it along. It was so covert that I felt kind of naughty even accepting the CD from her hands...but of course I did...and I hope that he is not pissed when he finds out that I decided to go along with this piece before the songs are even released...ah what the hell!
Damn! This is real...real good! I know that "good" is not a very flashy term, but neither is the music. It is straightforward where it should be...beautifully arranged where it ought to be...and passionate all the way through. In a word...YES!!!
Those in the NYC scene might know Treacher as the frontman for the soul/blues/rock based Delaware Hudson. They are a powerhouse of emotion on stage and off. In fact, they recently needed to take time to "regroup and recoop" so to speak. Treacher's songs on "Chrome" are just as well crafted as with D and H...without some of the electric guitar grit. As with all of the songs he writes...both bands included...he seems to lock into a vibe that borders...and sometimes immerses itself...on and in the dramatic. The songs stand in very classic stylized forms. His vocals are sweetly haunting yet tough...something that has always allowed him to stand out among the throngs of others in the NYC circuit. And as for a single...I am finding it hard to choose. Two or three pop right out...but since this review is not even supposed to be happening I would only be speculating...(Tracks 1..2..and 3 are my faves...sshh!!!!)
Anyway, I guess the secret is out. I do know that there is talk of a solo Treacher gig here and there...so keep your eyes out for both the CD and the shows. In this writer's opinion...well worth the wait...psyched for the gigs!
And that's the word on the street...

Bio
Steeped in what can only be labeled as a Traditional American style, with influences ranging from the bluesy soul of Otis Redding and Sam Cook to the weathered backcountry raunch of The Band and Hank Williams, Robinson has taken fibers from all genres... rock, country, R&B and Folk and woven them into a distinct tapestry, one that is clearly distinguishable in the world of Singer/ Songwriting. Whether playing the role as front man to the soul-rock infused Delaware Hudson, as co-collaborator to the Alt-Country based Tensleep, or as a solo singer/songwriter, Treacher seems to drain himself of energy in the ceaseless pursuit of portraying moments of musical passion.
Currently making his home in both NYC and Nashville, his honesty and grit reflect his eclectic upbringing as well as the musical influences that have shaped everything from the upstate Adirondacks to the heart of NYC on down through the Appalachians. On the heels of his last release, "Chrome", Robinson has recently released "Porches" , a purposefully stripped down collection of songs that rarely contains more than an acoustic guitar, an upright bass and of course those powerfully distinct vocals. He has shared the stage with songwriting greats such as Jorma Kaukonen, Chris Smither, Tom Rush and Iris DeMent to name a few, and has even been tauted by the legendary Don Schlitz, Forever and Ever, Amen, When You Say Nothing At All, The Gambler, as being...impossible to follow live on stage.
Robinson has been featured on Sirius/XMs The Loft: Live from The Living Room series and has been named Singer Universes Vocalist of the Month and recently, he has been nominated for a NSAI/ CMT country music Peoples Choice Award for his song, "Long Day, Good Night" and is currently supporting his upcoming release with shows in NYC, Nashville and other cities around the country.
