There is no doubt that the past year has been filled with career highlights for Riky Rick after his smash jam Amantombazane blazed local charts, upping his profile and officially reintroducing to the public a multi-talented artist who deservedly got his proper big break.
It’s not hard to see why Riky Rick, real name Rikhado Makhado has made a more than a memorable impact in the local music industry. His fun, outgoing yet respectable character has gotten the 27-year old a slew of fans. From urban dwellers to kasi residents, he has made his mark, bringing a fresh, smart and catchy sound to what has been a predictable hip-hop scene of late, explained Zkhiphani’s consulting editor, Bernice Maune.
“We are fortunate enough to be alive during the birth of a new era in the music industry that goes by the name of New Age Kwaito or should I say N.A.K. Artists like Major League, Boyz N Buckz, Cassper Nyovest and Riky Rick are right there at the forefront. Therefore this issue celebrates that,” added Zkhiphani’s editor-at-large, Andile Mathobela.

KwaMashu-born Rikhado Makhado, popularly known as Riky Rick, is an accomplished producer, writer, rapper and actor. Riky, who was introduced to the music industry in a recording studio session with Bongani Fassie, this son of South African music legend Brenda Fassie, has had a phenomenal year and has enjoyed major succes with hit singles “Nafukwa”, “Amantombazane”, “Boss Zonke” and most recently "Sondela".
Riky is a sought after music producer for fellow South African hip-hop artists like Cassper Nyovest, L-Tido and DJ Dimplez. He writes, composes, produces and creates sounds for his own brand of music which is a fusion of South African kwaito and hip hop.
It was during his time at boarding school that Riky began expressing his passion for music. He started a rap club with friends and began his journey in the entertainment industry, which later led him to AFDA where he studied film production. The insights that Riky gained from studying film production has seen him shooting numerous groundbreaking music videos and documentaries for South African artists, as well as shooting his own videos in unconventional locations like the canals of Amsterdam and a mining site in South Africa.
Riky is equally talented in front of the camera and has featured in fashion spreads for brands ranging from NIKE to Ben Sherman. Also an accomplished actor, he recently featured on DStv's popular drama, ISIBAYA, where he played the role of slick music producer "Mandellic".
With two nominations for the 2014 Channel O awards, four nominations for the 2014 South African Hip Hop Awards and one nomination for the 2014 South African Music Awards, this talent is undoubtedly destined for great things.
Riky Rick’s debut album titled “Family Values” was released on 3 April 2015 under his own label, Makhado Makhado Agency.
