"Live Review, Palladium, North Devon"

HAVING really enjoyed These Reigning Days' gig at The Palladium, I was checking a couple of facts when I tripped over this quote on This is South Devon's web site:
"These Reigning Days produce a stadium sound even in intimate venues. Coldplay with balls and a stiff drink instead of world peace and green tea."

Brilliant. Sums it up perfectly and I wish I'd written it. It's almost all you need to know but here's some flesh for that quote's bones.
Just six months ago These Reigning Days played to a small crowd at The Pally who all raved about them. Their eagerly anticipated return was initially postponed when they got the call to support Echo and the Bunnymen in Rome.

There's only three of These Reigning Days but they easily bring their full sound from the studio to the stage. They play clever, more than just pop songs with an indie guitar sound matched by subtly layered synth backing tracks that in turn wrap around Dan Steer's distinctive voice.
So while there's hint of maybe Ultravox and even a touch of Duran Duran, there's a much stronger, cutting edge to the music – listen to Changes or upcoming single Too Late – and it all powers along, driven hard by Jonny Finnis' great sounding bass and rock solid drummer Joe Samsone.
Initially, the crowd kept a tentative distance but the band were clearly out to enjoy themselves regardless, so when a few brave souls stepped forward, the place took off as per that perfect quote.
By the second encore, a re-run of first single Living It Up, the place was jumping and you have to hope we get to see them in the wonderfully intimate Pally again before the stadiums beckon. - North Devon Journal

"Live Review, Water Rats, London"

These Reigning Days
This unsigned three-piece
from Devon will be playing to
bigger crowds than many of
their signed contemporaries
this summer, supporting Bon
Jovi at San Siro Stadium on
June 29 and playing the main
stage at Polish Woodstock
in August – reputedly the
world’s largest festival with
half a million attendees.
The latter came about as a
result of their appearance
at Musexpo, which we
understand has also
generated considerable label,
publisher and sync interest,
with multiple offers now
on the table. RotD caught
Monday night’s impressive
Water Rats showcase,
which has likewise ramped
things up for the band on the
agency side. BBC Introducing
have been big supporters.
Comparisons with another
well-known stadium trio from
Devon are inevitable, but
These Reigning Days have
the potential carve out their
own place. - Record of The Day

"Stand Down review"

These Reigning Days is a trio of talented young musicians who are well on their way to making some big waves in music, not only in the UK but worldwide. Having recently performed in front of 80,000 punters in support of Bon Jovi in Milan, Italy, and soon to be winning over fans on the main stage of the Polish Woodstock (Pryzsytanek Woodstock 2013) in front of 500,000 in Poland this summer, These Reigning Days are already on a musical high that only a select number of artists ever achieve in their career. At the root of it all is their anthemic and epic stadium rock, which is perfectly displayed in their single, ‘Stand Down,’ taken from their forthcoming debut album. Blending together a rich mix of keys, driving drumbeats, funky bass lines and Chris Martin-esque vocals, these lads have created a formula that has the means to take them all the way, and we look forward to seeing this path unfold before them! - Annie Stevens, AAA Music

"Too Late"

UK band These Reigning Days have an album due out later in the year but until its release seem intent to tease and torment by releasing singles which leave the listener over excited and longing for much more. The songs Changes and Living It Up have already more than wetted the appetite with their infectious and melodic powers but now the band has really ignited the touch paper of anticipation with their best single yet, the anthemic giant Too Late.
Formed by former frontman/songwriter of The Quails, Dan Steer, the band has been on a strong charge through their releases to date and live performances which since making their debut alongside Metronomy has found them supporting Echo and The Bunnymen at a festival in Rome and an impressive series of festival appearances waiting for them in 2013, as well as recording a live session on BBC Introducing in Devon. The trio of Steer, bassist/vocalist Jonny Finnis (Numb), and drummer Joe Sansone (Morph), continue to impress and garner acclaim as well as a bulging fan base to which the new single will only inspire further.
The single opens on a feisty dark bassline which wonderfully prowls with a swagger around seductive guitar strokes which smoulder and flame within the immediately heated atmosphere of the song. Once the fine vocals of Steer open up their lyrical narrative the song opens unveils an electronic ambience to complete a full persuasion before opening up into a rampant, eager, and wholly contagious chorus where vocals and sounds unite to leave the senses breathless. With pungent rhythms which conspire to ignite even deeper passions in league with the bass and a delicious step into a sultry dance of Latin tempered invention and melodic seduction which leaves one drooling, Too Late is a masterful and completely absorbing treat.
These Reigning Days has once more unleashed a track which knows how to incite and engage the raptures with skill and mischievous imagination. It has also made the wait for their Yoad Nevo produced album even more agitated and impatient but after a song this good we will forgive them. - A Ringmaster Review

"An Incredible Band"

“…an incredible band. I ’m a massive, massive fan of the band.” - James Santer, BBC Introducing

"Too Late Review"

These Reigning Days return this week with their brand new single Too Late - their third single release - and the trio have an album set for release later this year.
There is a greater swagger to Too Late compared to anything else that they have released so far and it is a track that hooks from the opening chords.
The bassline at the beginning of the track really does give the track a bit of a dark feel before the guitars burst into life - particularly in the chorus.
Too Late is a track with a real energy from start to finish and there is an anthemic quality to the song - it is one of those tracks that you know will sound terrific live.
There is a pulsating electro undercurrent to the track that works fantastically alongside the guitars that really do power this track forward.
Too Late is the most exciting track that These Reigning Days have released so far and it is not surprising that there are some great things being said about this band at the moment.
If they keep on producing tracks like this their album is going to be one not to miss this year. - Femail First 4/5

"Too Late Review"

With tinges of post punk, folk and electronic music in their new single, These Reigning Days have created a wonderful piece of experimentation. With a handful of bands, past and present that have slight similarities to such a style, it may just be the right time for this trio to take advantage of their skills. Stacked to the brim with a mosaic of sounds, effects and instruments, Too Late marches into the ears of the listener. The feel of the song evokes a feeling of sad resilience.
The intro features a western styled lead guitar riff that reverberates to great effect, preparing the listener for the spacious and lonely atmosphere of the song’s nature. As far as the lyrics go, they are reminiscent of indie pop verses from the 80s, with lines of misery, unrequited love and fear. The harmonies of the band give the impression that there are more members than there actually are. The choir like approach suits the chorus very well, especially the lyric ‘it’s too late for a wedding’. The themes of marriage and religion are different, yet very easy to relate to. The use of love as a subject in music has to remain subjective in order to mine the deepest of ones emotions, but also broad enough to touch anyone. This track has achieved both. An interesting and exotic break allows the bass to become more prominent, tantalising percussion and ultimately give way to a climatic outro that bursts with vibrant energy.
Released on March 31, 2013 the single is available on iTunes. With major support from BBC Introducing, along with other publications, the band seem be creating quite a stir in the UK. With a new album to be released later in the year, the South West band has a fantastic chance to show their talents in greater detail. - Musicosis, Rahul Bahal

"Too Late Single Review"

Forming from the ashes of songwriter Dan Steers’ previous band The Quails, These Reigning Days have their sights firmly set on stadium-straddling world domination. They’re currently working on their debut album with producer Yoad Nevo, a veteran of chart-bothering superstars like Pet Shop Boys, Duran Duran and Girls Aloud. It shows. ‘Too Late’ is a resoundingly anthemic wedge of electro-tinged pop rock, machine tooled for big stages and bigger crowds. Kicking off with Echo and the Bunnymen flavoured rattly bass and reverb drenched guitars, the track wastes little time getting to its big booming chorus.
The song has actually been around for a while, even topping the Italian MTV chart after These Reigning Days supported the mighty Bon Jovi at the San Siro stadium. That ‘Too Late’ is starting to attract fresh attention is a just reward for a band that seems to be happy to put in the hours on the road to Success Town.
“We rehearse every single day and we are writing and working our asses off. Some other bands seem to think that it should happen to them more if they write and they should be more successful. I can’t stress enough you can think that you are the best in the world but if you just take a step out you realise that there is always more work that you can do and there are always more changes you can make to be better. I’m never happy creatively I think, as there are always better lyrics to be written and better tunes to be made – the only way you can tell is when you play in front of an audience to see their reaction.” - Shazam

"Living It Up"

“This truly infectious song reinforces all claims of a brilliant album to follow.
Devon based singer/songwriter Dan Steer has had a solid start in the music industry supporting timeless bands such as Newton Faulkner, The Futureheads and Muse with his previous band The Quails. The concrete precision of his guitar playing has landed him a sponsorship with Manson Guitars and he has also played big festivals including Glastonbury and Boardmasters.
Following a successful beginning Dan Steer has moved on to innovate a new style that can be explained as synth coated indie-rock. That alone is a good enough reason to give the single a listen. Another is because of the wise choice to include Joe Sansome and Jonny Finnis in the band, who both fit the new sound and play to the mood of each song.
'Living It Up' starts with a teasing build up, Dan Steer's strong voice jumps out while epic yet simple piano chords thicken the sound. The drums come in and add more power through drum rolls on the lower end of the kit, building the tension up until finally the synthesisers sharply introduce the chorus. Dan's ironic lyrics have a powerful effect that imprints the song in your mind. He delivers the vocals in a confident way and they soon become hard not to sing along with.
The fusion of electronics with the main body of the band supports the motive of Dan Steer's music. There is enough evidence to prove this band will go far and backbone Dan Steer will be a well known name in years to come. “ - Music News

"Living It Up review"

“Made up of musicians with a pedigree which places the trio on an immediate accomplished level before a note is heard, UK band These Reigning Days has in its relatively short life been on a definite and steep rise. Releasing second single Living It Up, the band easily concretes and improves upon the impression from their debut of a more than solid unit capable of fusing strong melodies and intelligent songwriting into one infectious atmospheric sound. The new single lights the touch paper to the belief and promise that the band is well on course to becoming a major force in UK music, whether sooner or later it seems a must and with the talk of their impending debut album confidently laying claim to brilliance it could be the former. Produced by Yoad Nevo (Pet Shop Boys, Duran Duran, Girls Aloud, Goldfrapp) the song is an expansive and enveloping weave of passion and stirring energy which leaves a lasting welcome impression long after its departure. With beautifully crafted continual switches between the slower impassioned grace and the lively almost feisty energy the song is a deliciously unpredictable yet undemanding pleasure.
If the album has songs even more enjoyable than Living It Up then it is sure to justify the high claim coming before it, if they are simply comparable to this single it will be a release which will enchant and excite multitudes and see These Reigning Days leaping to the fore front of UK indie music.” - Ringmaster Review

"Living It Up Review"

“After the huge success of their debut single Changes, These Reigning Days are back with their new and equally great second single Living It Up. This track is a real fusion of elements as it moves from indie-rock with a very subtle electro twist and while on paper that does seem like an odd combination it does work really well. There is a very orchestral opening to the song as Dan Steer’s vocals are supported by a piano and before the drums and the guitars really kick in. And when they do kick in this becomes an incredibly upbeat and catchy track, seriously you will struggle to get this out of your heard after you have heard it. The track moves from a ballad feel in the verse to a more energetic chorus and the mixing of these two different speeds really do work well. Then the solo guitars kick in and they really do give Living It Up quite an epic feel.
Dan Steer, formerly of The Quails, delivers a very emotional vocal - he has the kind of voice that could pack feeling and emotion into reading the phonebook.
Living It Up is a pulsating track that has layers of rock with an electro twist and I can’t wait to hear a debut album.” - Femail First

"Living It Up Review"

“‘Living It Up’ is the second single from Devon based three piece These Reigning Days. If you were lucky enough to hear their debut single ‘Changes’ then you will already be aware of how great this band are.
‘Living It Up’ opens with soft soothing vocal, before exploding into a big stadium anthem. The track shifts from quiet to loud, fast to slow and will have fans jumping around uncontrollably.
These Reigning Days are a band who are clearly destined for great things. Be sure to start following them now, so in five years down the line when they are selling out stadiums you can honestly say you were there from the start.” - Steve Tay, A Muscial Opinion

"Changes single review"

“From the intro to the end there is air of the epic about it; with the wall of synths, interspersed with some interesting guitar work in the louder sections – at times its slightly reminiscent of Floyd. With excellent musicianship, a buff production from Yoad Nevo, and Dan Steer’s unique voice, this is a classy piece of work. A very confident first single from a band that, while new, is made up of pretty experienced individuals who clearly know where they want to go. ”. - Music News

"Too Late Single Review"

“This is a remarkably mature debut single from a band who have a great deal to say for themselves.
They have real scope and majesty about the music, they sound as though they are made for festivals and arenas but the hypnotic beat of the single would be a huge success in a club as well. Yoad Nevo (Pet Shop Boys, Duran Duran, Sugarbabes, Goldfrapp ....) has done a great job in creating a huge and impassioned soundscape.

Keep an eye out for these guys, this single suggests they could be huge this year.” - Music News

"Changes single review"

“Their debut single Changes feels like a thing of contrasts - ranging from flanged XX-style ambiance in the verses to a more robust White Lies/Courteeners-esque steady wall of sound in the chorus. It's impassioned, sonically involving music that understands that you can still be adventurous without pushing musical boundaries to their limits. It's a great first taste of what looks set to be a highly promising album from the band, pencilled in for a summer release.” - Totally Vivid

"Changes Review"

“...something I am excited about, an album release. This Devon based band have just started a gigging career and I would be amazed if they don't make it big in the same way that Muse have. Yes, this is only a single release, but with the stunning vocals of Dan Steer this three piece surely are destined for success. “ - Martin Hudson, Classic Rock Society

"Changes"

“Surprisingly, I don’t have much to say about this one. Except that it’s very good, and I like it a lot. I extremely recommend buying this as soon as it released on whatever platform is popular in February. The song is a sort of love-triangle-come-bigamist-marriage between Coldplay, Bullet For My Valentine, Editors and Glasvegas. This marriage works extremely well, and I can’t get enough of it. It creates a relaxing atmosphere that is simultaneously very upbeat and catchy and damn I just can’t get enough. (Turns out I did have a lot to say).” - Camel's Hump

"Living It Up single review"

“For their second single, promising Devon newcomers These Reigning Days go for classic British guitar sounds, but revitalised with a proficiency and sense of scope that feels grander and more ambitious than a good deal of their contemporaries. A big hearty chorus and slabs of steely guitar that march stoically along, Living It Up is the kind of track The Enemy would have done well to have had on their new album. With a support slot alongside Metronomy under their belts already, one imagines that with songs as strong as this, These Reigning Days are chomping at the bit to head out on the road again.” - Totally Vivid

"Living It Up single review"

“The band’s debut single ‘Changes’ was very good indeed, reminding me of the mighty Muse. This new song though sees the band go for a highly catchy indie rock song, with a nod the 80′s in the guitar and the Ultravox approved synth riff. I am sure I can hear some pomptastic church organ towards the end of the song. Based on these two songs alone their debut album due in the summer is shaping up to be one of the year’s listening highlights.” - Get Ready to Rock

"Changes single review"

“Changes’ is truly special… it is hands down the best debut single I have heard this year.” - Access All Areas

"Changes Single Review"

“Changes is the debut single from Devon based three piece These Reigning Days. After one listen I started to question whether this could really be their first single. This is a bold, atmospheric, anthemic number that has the sound of a band who has been writing music like this for years. Lead singer Dan Steer obviously learning his trade well during his time as singer/songwriter of The Quails.
Changes combines synthesizers, drums, guitars and vocals that change from hushed to bold. The production on this song is excellent, as you’d expect from Yoad Nevo, who has worked with the likes of Pet Shop Boys and Duran Duran. The result is a smooth and polished debut that will find no issue working its way onto many radio playlists across the country. - A Musical Opinion

"Regime Entertainment"

“From the second I heard These Reigning Days album I thought ‘Shit, these guys are good!’. These Reigning Days far and away has been the most popular band we have ever distributed to our music supervisors. From the second we send them out, our phones and e mail went off the hook. The head of Warner TV loves them. Every song was equally well received, there’s not a weak song on the album” - Regime Sync Publishers Los Angeles

"Changes single Review"

“This is supple layered rock with a taste for the epic. Pulsating electro shadings subtly counter the dazed guitar and transcendent lyric.” - Daily Mirror, UK

"The Fleece Bristol // When: 01/02/2012"

“This alternative rock trio came across at ease on stage; their music easily filling the venue and the ears of the many in attendance. Dan’s strong vocals flitter with ease across an ever changing backdrop of music. Keeping every beat in time, These Reigning Days are as tight – and as professional as they come.” - Jodie Humphries, Live Music Scene

"The Studio Lounge Totnes"

" These Reigning Days produce a stadium sound even in intimate venues. If you like Coldplay, but are too cool to admit it, then you’ll love These Reigning Days. They’re Coldplay with balls and a stiff drink instead of world peace and green tea.” - Live Music Scene

"Entertainment Focus"

“Vocalist, lyricist and charismatic front man Dan Steer’s voice is strong and persistent. This front man is quality with a guitar and has the distinctive vocals needed for the band to get noticed.” - Entertainment Focus

"Live Review at BBC Club, London"

“What an interesting band “These Reigning Days” are... with an incredible maturity. Their rock music is extremely textured with many, many layers and is so epic, it immediately makes you think it should be in a film and probably one on a giant screen, at that. Yet despite this, theirs is no prissy, polite excuse for rock music. It’s powerful, with in “Joe Sansone” one of the most powerful drum sounds I have heard in years. Jonny Finnis, the bass player, provides a really solid, yet dextrous carpet and between bass and drums, the two of them build an amazing foundation on which the music is built. Dan Steer, who is the song writer, lead vocalist, keyboard player and guitarist bit of the band, is kept really busy, but copes with his workload more than admirably. His sharp, acidic guitar sails above the music and his vocals cut through that to make for a really exciting sound.
This is their own brand of synth layered Indie rock. You can’t say they sound like anyone else, cos they are definitely a band who make their own noise. It’s a fusion of Indie rock with a subtle Electro twist, but with great depth. Seeing them perform was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I have to say, though I know it’s an old cliche, that if this band doesn’t get your toes tapping, you are probably dead” - Musicosis

"Live review at The Fleece Feb 2012"

“Knowing Dan Steer from his days with The Quails, it was only natural that I was curious to find out what he was up to now with These Reigning Days. This alternative rock trio came across at ease on stage; their music easily filling the venue and the ears of the many in attendance. The band may not have been around for a significant amount of time yet, but it appears that they are already building up a bit of a following in their wake. Dan’s strong vocals flitter with ease across an ever changing backdrop of music. Keeping every beat in time, These Reigning Days are as tight – and as professional as they come. Latest single ‘Changes’ instantly shows the musicianship and songwriting skills of the band. Dan’s vocals take on an almost harmonic quality as echoed guitar, rumbling bass and thundering drums keep the pace up. This song contains almost a pop element in the way that lyrics such as “This one’s for the moment / This one’s for the time” beat a path to become stuck in your head.
Despite being predominately an alternative rock band, the likes of ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ held almost an indie pop feel to it, while ‘Fish Bowl’ (all about Teignmouth) went for a more electro edge with yet another catchy chorus. In another example of the changing temperament of the band, a song later on in the set – which could possibly have been called ‘She’s A Satellite’ – apologises if that is wrong – had a darker feel to it; the music felt dramatic as the song chugged along.
This set from These Reigning Days showed what a versatile band they are; it showed their strong abilities as a band and the fact that three guys can make a hell of a lot of noise when they put their minds to it!”

"Changes Single Review"

Three piece band formed by former Quails lead singer Dan Steer and this is their debut single. Full marks to a band with a plan as they have another single out in April and a third single, along with their debut album released in the summer. The song starts quietly before building nicely and for a three piece band they certainly provide a lot of music - like Muse in that respect. Check this tune out as I am sure we will be hearing a lot more from this band in the future. - Get Ready to Rock

"Debut single Review"

Devon three-piece These Reigning Days already have some very attractive lines to their musical CV - they're fresh from supporting Mercury nominated darlings Metronomy and 2012 sees them lined-up to headline Exmouth Festival.

Their debut single Changes feels like a thing of contrasts - ranging from flanged XX-style ambiance in the verses to a more robust White Lies/Courteeners-esque steady wall of sound in the chorus. It's impassioned, sonically involving music that understands that you can still be adventurous without pushing musical boundaries to their limits.

It's a great first taste of what looks set to be a highly promising album from the band, pencilled in for a summer release.

Changes is released on the 20th February. - Totally Vivid

Rising Brit stars Reigning Days have unveiled a brilliant new song and video

Having already made huge waves last year, Devonshire three-piece Reigning Days have just given us a brand reason to get excited about them. Not only does their colossal new song Empire – taken from their upcoming self-titled EP, released on June 3 – feature huge riffs, it also comes with a Casino Royale-tastic video!

Speaking about the song, vocalist Dan Steer says: “We couldn’t be happier right now. This song sums up where we are as a band and as people so it’s great to have so much interest and traction with such a massive tune. Thanks to all the crazy people who come to all our shows – we’re totally made up. See you at Download!” - Kerrang!

"Kerrang! 4KKKK review"

Devonshire Trio tick box marked Future Rock Stars with Killer EP
Ultimately – just as with most great bands – it’s all about the songs. There might only be four here, but each of them is laced with the kind of melodic goodness most new bands would struggle to concoct onece. - Kerrang!

Reigning Days - Renegade
Pitched somewhere between Royal Blood and Guns N' Roses, Renegade make a noise so big and terrifying that we've had to relocate the magazine to a bigger, more robust office. Devastatingly epic - Classic Rock Review

Bio

Devonshire three-piece Reigning Days have revealed their brand new single ‘Friendly Fire’, out on November 26th, ahead of their debut EP release next year.

‘Friendly Fire’ is produced by Jamie Evans (Mexicolas) and mixed by Ade Bushby (Foo Fighters/Muse) and finds the band hitting their impressively thunderous musical stride, showcasing colossal riffs, and a chorus that’s destined to light up the airwaves worldwide.

The three-piece, made up of Dan Steer, Jonny Finnis and Joe Sansome, have spent the last 18 months honing their sound and have notched up some impressive main stage international appearances including festivals in Russia, India, Poland, America and the UK.

After being tipped for success across the pond, the band were invited by SESAC to play their prestigious showcase at CMJ in New York. Support slots with the likes of Lower Than Atlantis, Enter Shikari and The 1975 have cemented their live credentials.

Throughout 2016 Reigning Days toured the UK several times with bands such as Raveneye (UK), Wilson (US) and most recently 7 dates with UK rock band FEEDER, taking in venues such as Camden Roundhouse and Manchester Ritz.
