New Video: Reese Renee “Guess Again” - Radio One WKYS DC
It takes a special person to be a musician. You have to have talent, of course, but you also have to possess the emotional and mental strength needed to be away from home or your loved ones for long stretches of time whether you're holed up in the studio recording or going from city to city on the road touring. With those demands on time, people can feel neglected and relationships can get rocky. DMV-based singer/songwriter Reesa Renee experienced that push and pull when her music career started taking off and she found herself unable to balance family and music. From that struggle, the song "Guess Again" from her EP Lovers Rock was born. - www.soulbounce.com
YouKnowIGotSoul is proud to premiere the new video for the song “Guess Again” by emerging rnb talent Reesa Renee. Fresh off of her performance in our Sol Village showcase, the DMV native shares the visual for the very personal song to her career. She revealed to us about the song: - www.youknowigotsoul.com
Ahead of her performance at the Uptown Soul Lounge on March 25th, multifarious DC soul queen Reesa Reene keeps her 2015 EP Lovers Rock fresh with the release of her brand new music video for “Guess Again.”
Produced by Reesa’s brother P’Kay, the buoyant song is a personal number with vibrant visuals to match the uplifting message.
“I wrote the song in a very busy season of my career – I was at a transitioning point in my career where I was spending a lot more time on the road,” Renee says. “I was juggling family and music, and music was winning. I found myself missing family functions and birthday parties and it was really bothering me. I wrote that song for my loved ones – just a way of telling them I cared even though I was gone and missing things.” - www.singersroom.com
Standout Track: No. 4, “Hello Mama,” an upbeat, joyous R&B cut from the Landover-raised singer’s second effort, the seven-song Lovers Rock. A preacher’s daughter, Reesa Renee first broke into the spotlight when she won Amateur Night at the Apollo in 2011. Recorded at House Studios in Hyattsville—where Renee had previously recorded her 2012 debut album Reelease— “Hello Mama” starts off with a repeated rhythm guitar lick and handclap percussion courtesy of producer Reggie Volume, before Renee comes in with conversational vocals slowly cascading into soaring and jazzy harmonies. Renee’s soulful and vibrant delivery of the phrase “ride, ride, ride” stands out melodically. - Washington City Paper
Hot on the local music scene is Reesa Renee, a soulful R&B singer and lyrical poet whose musical talents have been showcased alongside performers like Chuck Brown, Raheem DeVaughn, Eric Roberson, and Wale. Renee launched her solo career in 2011, becoming the second person to win the prestigious Amateur Night at the Apollo in the last three years with an original song. Instead of singing a cover, Renee won with her “Got Me Loose” song. - Tagg Magazine
Coming across great new music is like finding gold after searching through piles of aluminum. That’s exactly how SOS felt after attending Reesa Renee’s performance at Maryland Live! Casino in Hanover, MD last night. There were so many positive elements to this experience that we had to break it down. You Ready? Okay, Cool. - Season of the Socialite
"Reesa Renee has a boundless, compelling dynamism that grabs art-chasing hearts and music-loving minds...it’s a great feeling to meet a rising young star in one’s hometown and actually believe in the person’s talent as well as their ability to..." - Dcbrand99

It’s been almost a year since Maryland singer Reesa Renee released her debut album, “Reelease,” which pulls from go-go, alt-soul and spoken word. She’s celebrating the milestone with a big show at the Fillmore Silver Spring on Aug. 23 that includes a surprise roster of some of her favorite D.C. R&B and soul singers. “Everybody on the show is from here, just like everybody involved in the first album is from here,” Renee says. “You’ve got to start from your foundation.”
The singer-songwriter, who won Apollo Amateur Night in 2011 with her original song “Got Me Loose,” has spent the past year traveling through North America on her “Wonderland Cool” tour. Still, she says, there is nothing like receiving a warm welcome at home.
“It’s always nice to receive a pat on the back, but it’s even better when it’s from home,” she says. “That’s like your parents telling you that you’re doing a good job — you’re just like, ‘Wooo!’?”

All in all, I’d say the DMV had a great year—especially when it comes to music. But who should you watch out for in 2013? All these people next to numbers listed below - BrightestYoungThings.com
2011 Apollo champ has has made even bigger waves in 2012 with her debut album Reelease, which at one point outpaced Usher’s album and reached top 20 on the iTunes R&B charts. The success of the soul siren’s album led to a headline date at the Fillmore in Silver Spring, a sponsorship deal with Sports Zone and features on the Washington Post , KYSDC.com, The Washington City Paper and Soul Train. - 93.9 WKYS FM WASHINGTON
At this point last year, I knew very little about Reesa Renee. While the upstart Landover, Md., singer generated modest buzz in the D.C. scene, she remained mostly under the radar. Since then, Renee has won first place at Apollo Amateur Night and performed live on Fox5 Morning News.
Still, there were surprising moments at her show on Saturday. At Fillmore Silver Spring, Renee belted out tunes from her debut album, Reelease—out today—amid a who's-who of D.C. musicians: Largo, Md., rapper RAtheMC showed up for her verse on "Listen," and jetsetter Tabi Bonney performed songs from his own catalog. Not bad for a relative newcomer. - Washington CityPaper

NEW MUSIC MONDAY: Reesa Renee
May 7, 2012 By Pharoh Martin - My Majic 102.3 FM
Reesa Renee has opened up for the legendary Chuck Brown, Roy Ayers, Wale and more. She was the first artist to win the prestigious Amateur Night at the Apollo in three years with her original song, “Got Me Loose.” Her debut album is set to drop tomorrow, August 28. Check out her interview below. - 93.9 WKYS.COM FM
If you haven’t heard of Reesa Renee yet, you still have time to get hip before her debut album Reelease drops on August 28.
The D.C. songstress held an exclusive media listening party at Martin’s in the U Street Corridor to give a sneak peek of Reelease. Produced by her brother, PKay, the album is the brainchild of a young artist influenced by Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and Chuck Brown, which becomes evident as you listen to the album. Reesa Renee gives us a gumbo of sultry melodies, upbeat tempos and stimulating lyrics that pleases the eardrums. - A daily dose of tea
When asked about her favorite episode of Soul Train, 24 year-old Reesa Renee can’t really say since she was too young to remember the show that enjoyed its height of popularity before she was even born. But, Reesa has a pretty good idea what Soul Train represented and says that it influences who she is as an artist.
“I came in on the ‘remember whens’ of Soul Train,” she says. “I love the history with it, though, and just about all the dancing parts, too. It reminds me of my parents, and represents the effect music is supposed to have on someone. It’s a good ‘ole music feel that I’ve studied and strive to bring back and mesh with more of the modern sounds.”
A native of Washington D.C., Reesa Renee launched her music career less than two years ago after a successful run of multiple wins at the famous Apollo Theatre in New York. Now poised to enjoy a whirlwind of fanfare as she prepares for the August release of her debut album Reelease, Reesa talks to SoulTrain.com about what Jill Scott says about her music, how she has been inspired by the late Chuck Brown, and how music transformed her life. - SoulTrain.com

Reesa Renee, by all accounts, is not supposed to be a soul singer.
The bubbly 24-year-old grew up in Landover, a preacher’s kid. “My life was all about my father pouring into his ministry,” she says. She also had dreams of playing in the WNBA. - Washington Post

REESA RENEE FEATURED ON WJLA ABC NEW 7 "WORKING WOMAN" SEGMENT. - WJLA ABC NEWS 7
She’s not quite neo-soul and not quite r&b. A rapper - more like a poet with an MC’s flow - as well as a vocalist, up and coming Reesa Renee unveiled mad swag via the video for ‘Wonderland Cool’ yesterday to the public. For someone who’s been performing for a couple of months, she’s doing pretty darn good. - EXAMINER.COM
This feature is turning into a wonderful digging in the crates so to speak because Reesa Renee is a true artist from the DMV! Reesa Renee launched her career this year back in January literally(check below for the info) and has been catapulting herself forward ever since performing in the DMV as well as in New York City (with a win at the famed Apollo). Here is her latest video “Wonderful Cool”. I could not think of a better title for this song because image is what you want it to be and Reesa addresses that in her song. Click on Play and I have no doubt that you will enjoy. - CREATIVE BEACH COLLECTIVE
Determination to succeed is an understatement for this artist as she traveled to the Historic Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York. Reesa Renee traveled to the Apollo Theater to perform in the Amateur Night Show, she performed and original song "Get Me Loose" which has a jazz and won first place. Winning first place was a surreal experience for the artist but also the first time in three years that artist has performed an original song and won. This is certainly a monumental moment for the artist and also for her supporters in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area. As winner of Amateur she has been invited to come back for a chance to win $10,000. To learn more and to donate to her traveling back to Harlem visit her website ReesaRenee - SAREAIS
PRLog (Press Release) - Oct 05, 2011 -
(Washington, DC) -- Reesa Renee, an artist, musician, songwriter, and lyrical poet from the DC Metropolitan Area, released her “Wonderland Cool” single today on iTunes, Amazon MP3 and CD Baby. Wonderland Cool is a fun, upbeat hip-hop track that tells the story of Reesa’s self-discovery of style and fashion. The video was released last week on YouTube.
In a review of the video for the Washington Examiner, Journalist Lee Anderson writes, “Reesa realizes… she’s too cool to go along with something she isn’t comfy with and that she can be fly simply on the merits of her individuality. And that is what makes the video directed by Jason Baustin great. While the video lacks an elaborate 24 person dance routine on top of car hoods in a parking lot in the desert or shots of luxury cars that no one on the set owns cruising down the highway, what the video does have is relevance. It visually relates to what is happing sonically.”

FRESH. YOUNG. SOUL. FUNK. with a DC hip hop edge....more to come from the talented young artist. I had the pleasure to attend the video release of neo-soul newcomer REESA RENEE and I was thoroughly impressed. Her charm and approach to entertainment were genuine and unparalleled. I couldn't be more proud to say that she wears the DMV badge proudly with quality and respect. Her debut video featured cameos in our native BYFK style, as well as couture clothing designer Kenneth "KAS" Flannagan, who dresses the stars.
It was simple. The young athlete was encouraged to pick up a pen 3 years ago and she realized she had a unique talent and approach. Just reaching her apex of recording and performing, it was time to look at her image. Her team put her in the very capable hands of designer KAS, and the rest appeared on the pages between the lyrics. I enjoy authentic genuine dialogue about life with a strong melodic backbeat....that's what music is all about. This young, malleable talent is going far, did I mention her eclectic, live show made me proud,
and yes this girl plays an instrument.

What makes a voice different? What makes a voice stand out? Aren't we all different? Well, when it comes to singers, no not quite. Needless to say, most crooners have become carbon copies of each other. Even certain voices that do happen to be different have a contrived sort of originality about them. So when I happened to be at the Village Underground, NYC last week Sunday and Reesa Renee came up to the stage, I didn't expect to hear the sound that she produced. She has a projected raspy quality, forcefully sliding between low and high notes; yet the jumping around still holds melodic nature. It's a staple for certain Jazz singers, but her sound has hints of Neo-Soul (notice how the band chimed in too! They hadn't heard the song before either!). - THEGIRLBLUE.COM
