By June Wulff:
Before midlife crisis comes quarterlife crisis, a time of emotional upheaval for 20-somethings (when the bank-of-parent closes?). The up-and-coming pop/rock Boston band quarterlifeCRISiS recently released its self-financed debut EP, "Jaded Romantic," a pairing of upbeat music and introspective lyrics about that quarterlife stage. The band's first incarnation was Stronghold in Siam, and the guys pay tribute to their former group with the last three letters and unusual format of their new name. Tonight's musicians also include Stay, Brave Citizens, Teamwork, and Goodbye Sluggo. 8 p.m. doors. $9. 18+. Middle East Upstairs, 472-480 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge.617-931-2000. - Boston Globe - G
Stronghold in Siam, the Massachusetts-based band, is bringing music back to the days of fun, sing-along tunes with its first official release, “Anticipation Heightens the Pleasure.”
Named from the four friends’ realization that the only way to win the popular board game Risk is to have a stronghold in Siam, the band consists of University of Massachusetts Amherst sophomore Nick Mathews (percussion, band manager), Andrew Gregory of Boston University (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Peter Hunt of Cornell (lead guitar, harmony vocals), and Adam Fisher (bass guitar), also of UMass.
Although the group is heavily influenced by Third Eye Blind, its style draws from a multitude of musical genres and artists. “We try to diversify while still falling under line of ‘power-pop,’” Mathews says.
“Anticipation Heightens the Pleasure” is available on iTunes, which Matthews feels is a big step for any band. It signifies that the group is “evolving from a bunch of kids who play music to a real band,” he says. -- Stephanie McPherson - billboard.com

Bio
Red Summer Sun, a new Boston-based pop/rock band, consists of Andrew Gregory on lead vocals, Pete Hunt on guitar, Adam Fisher on bass, and Nick Mathews on drums. After spending several years performing on the Boston club scene as local favorites Stronghold and Siam, a five-piece alternative rock band, Andrew, Pete, Adam, and Nick decided to take their passion for music to the next level. Despite attracting the attention of several east and west coast indie labels, Stronghold in Siam disbanded in the fall of 2008, and the newly established Red Summer Sun (originally quarterlifeCRISiS) entered the esteemed Q Division recording studios with producer Matt Beaudoin (The Click Five, Fountains of Wayne, Mighty Mighty Bosstones) to cut their self-financed debut EP, Jaded Romantic.
"Our usual approach to creating music is to make people feel good," says Hunt, the quartet's primary songwriter. The band's catchy and upbeat music contrasts with introspective lyrics that examine the ups and downs of the transitional period between the teenage years and "real life." Every cut off of Jaded Romantic feels at home shuffled with Third Eye Blind, Maroon Five, the Jonas Brothers, Matchbox Twenty, Snow Patrol and the Click Five.
Like that of any other band, the music of Red Summer Sun is a product of the band's influences. All four members are of the "TRL generation," growing up listening to the likes of Matchbox Twenty, Third Eye Blind (from which they take their band name), and Sugar Ray. Pete and Nick, both trained bluesmen, played together in various punk and classic rock outfits as early as the seventh grade. Andrew got his start singing country covers in bars, and Adam has always been passionate about pop/punk and alternative rock.
Today, Red Summer Sun is emerging as one of New England and New York's top independent pop/rock acts, and Andrew, Pete, Adam and Nick are looking forward to bringing more music to their fans in the coming months.
