With a sound they describe as invigorating and magnetic, Orlando's Ratham Stone is hard at work honing their indie-rock songs into music that you can't help but relate to.
So what is Ratham Stone? In their own words,"We can’t tell you, some questions are meant to be left unanswered and some stories meant to be left untold, some day we will, but for now WE are RATHAM STONE."
Having just finished their second EP, "Hearing Colours", Ratham Stone is ready to share their hard work with the world. The guys spent the Summer recording the EP, shooting a new video for their first single "Grab the Gold", and organizing a CD release show that is both totally kick ass and very much in the spirit of the holiday season.
To give you a taste of what they've been working on prior to the EP's official release date of November 30th, we've got the video for the first single "Grab the Gold" below. Check it out!
. . .
Given that "Hearing Colours" is releasing in the heart of the Holiday Season, Ratham Stone wanted to set their CD Release Party apart from what most other bands would have done. They're hosting a four band bill called "Music Feeds Basic Needs" where they will be accompanied by The Reprieve, SMB Project, and Stockholm. It's a way the band feels they can help give back during the time of year when it is needed most. Rather than worry about what they'll make at the door, all proceeds will be going to the Second Harvest Food Bank. Donations ranging from perishable items to cash will be accepted at the door ( Click here for full details), every little bit helps as this is a busy time of year for food banks across the country.
Ratham Stone has planned a great night of rock for a cause the will benefit those in need in Central Florida.
If you are in the area on December 2nd, you won't want to miss this unique event!
Given the great video and unique show that Ratham Stone has on tap, you probably won't need any further convincing to give "Hearing Colours" a listen. But we're going to give you our review anyway!
Ratham Stone has been a Rocksposed Artist for several months now. Their previous singles "East Bound Train" and "Nothing More" have been regular favorites on Rocksposure Radio and they showed their strong following in our first ever Artist of the Year competition. Given the quality songs they recorded on their previous EP, I thought I knew what to expect from this solid indie rock band out of Central Florida. I never would have guessed the band could have improved and polished their sound up as much as they did on their follow up "Hearing Colours".
"Hearing Colours" is a diverse seven song EP that ranges from edgy rock to slower ballads, all of which contain down to earth, relatable lyrics. Ratham Stone sounded good on their previous EP, but the band's sound reaches new heights on this album. The music seems to mesh together better, from Adam Lipinski's vocals to Joe Hodgin's guitar, it's a considerably cleaner flow. There is an unmistakable refinement to the band's sound and it will be exciting to see how much further they can fine tune it as they continue to push their musical limits.
Much of the album has the feel and sound that we have come to like and expect from Ratham Stone. Mellow jams like "I Left Love" and "Maybe" carry the tone that has become the band's signature. Lipinski's voice doesn't have the largest range, but he delivers his lyrics in a way that carries all of the emotion necessary to deliver the message. Throughout the EP his voice reminded me of Stephen Jenkins of Third Eye Blind or Richard Patrick of Filter on some of their own slow jams. It works very well with Ratham Stone's brand of rock.
The band pushes the limits of their indie-rock genre tag with a few aggressive jams on "Hearing Colours". "Anywhere Away From Me" opens with a great guitar intro followed up by a strong tempo from drummer Andrew Maffettone. Throughout the song, Hodgin's guitar runs the spectrum from intricate mini-solos to softer tone setting riffs. The tempo changes in the song make it truly memorable and give it a considerable amount of character. "Grab the Gold" also falls into this category of heavier songs as it opens with Maffettone's quick pace and Daniel's clean bass line. It's a great fast paced song that pushes the band beyond what I expected to hear when I pushed play. These two songs caught me by surprise in the best way possible, it is a great direction for the band as it really shows off each of the member's musical skills.
The band continues to keep you guessing with "Late Night", a slow beat driven track that showcases some rap and rhymes over a great melody from the band with Lipinski singing the chorus. It is an unbelievably catchy song, in a far different realm from any other song I have heard from the band. To work a track like this into an EP was a nice touch, generally this is something that would only find its way onto a full len - Rocksposure
The newest member of the Orlando band Ratham Stone is also a new resident to Florida, singer/songwriter Andrew Lipinski. Lipinski, the twin brother of Ratham Stone’s lead vocalist Adam Lipinski, recently moved here from Ohio. The Orlando music scene has already made an impression on him “Its Big! There are so many bands in Orlando, and so many cool venues.”
Back in Ohio he had started a band, One Man Liar, and has a CD out Feed the Lonely. “Dancing In a Rainstorm,” “My Side,” and The Dream Catcher” from the CD are streaming on the TMG web site.
In Ratham Stone Lipinski sings, plays guitar and piano. Being the newest band member is a new experience for Lipinski and one he looks forward to. “Its awesome, the guys are really cool, we are working on recording another EP so really for the first time my brother Adam and I are going to be writing a lot of the songs together.”
Ratham Stone has posted a video recently which features their newest member as well as Ashley Loyd performing “Lost.” The video is available for viewing on You Tube.
His approach to songwriting is universal. “I am inspired by everything. That’s the beauty of writing songs, they can be about anything, but I usually try to stick to topics where more people can relate.”
“I want people to feel understood and not alone after listening to my music. I want them to relate. I want them to share the feeling I'm singing about whether it be pain, sorrow, or happiness.”
His musical influences are considered legends in the business. “Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson, Ray Charles, anyone who can express and mean what they are saying.”
He is working on building his own music publishing company, Blind Magic Publishing, and dreams of someday writing songs for Disney movies.

Orlando LIVE and Orlando Bands.com brought an outstanding line-up to The Social for the Second Harvest Food Bank benefit show on December 2. The festivities were hosted by Orlando LIVE’s Peter Murphy and Shea Stewart.
First up was a set of edgy alternative rock from SMB Project. The Orlando band played several songs from their debut CD Pivotal including “World Behind You,” “Fall,” and the politically themed “Lies.” The four piece band also played a cover of Smashing Pumpkin’s “Cherub Rock.” They closed their set with a new song “Lights and Sounds,” which will be on their forthcoming EP due early next year.
Orlando band Stockholm hit the stage next. Chris Arter (lead vocals/keys), Jeremiah Lloyd (lead guitar), Olie Thomas (rhythm guitar), and Brad Barrett (bass) electrified the assembled crowd with their hooky rock music. Their set included “Bad By Design” and the title track “Don’t Stop Now” from their EP released last June. They also played a couple of songs from their upcoming release Hush Hush, including the first single “This Love.”
The Reprieve kept the high-energy groove going with their infectious piano-driven rock music. The Orlando band played “The Show,” “You and Me,” and “Devotion” from their Then. Now. Soon… EP released last year. During “Again And Again” violinist Jaron Clark wandered through the audience playing, at one point hopping up on the bar. Lead vocalist/keyboardist Even Rundle remarked during the set “It’s fun to rock out.”
Closing out the night was Orlando’s Ratham Stone, celebrating the release of their newest CD Hearing Colours. For this special show Adam Lipinski (vocals), Joe Hodgin (guitar), Daniel "DPak" (bass), and Andrew Maffettone (drums), added Mike Guzzardo on guitar to give them a fuller live sound. They played several songs from the new CD including “Anywhere Away From Me,” “Map Of New York,” and the first single “Grab The Gold,” which had a video released in November. Their set also included a cover of The Cure’s “Love Song.”
They ended with “Nothing More” and “Eastbound Train” from their earlier EP Down For Whatever. The crowd brought them back to the stage with repeated chants of “One more song.” They closed with “Come Back Before Your Not Dead” also from the earlier EP.
It may have been a benefit show for the Second Harvest Food Bank, but the show sponsored by Orlando LIVE and Orlando Bands.com also benefited fans of local music by bringing together four very talented Orlando bands.

Influences from such diverse musical superstars as Elvis, Eminem, Brad Paisley, Counting Crows, and Bob Dylan are part of what shapes singer/songwriter Adam Lipinski’s music. “When I was about eight years old, I was the biggest Elvis fan,” said Lipinski. “As I got older, I went through each genre. I went from listening to Eminem and some pop music, followed by lots and lots of country music by artists like Gary Allen, Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, and all those big shots. But in the past five or six years I have really been listening to a lot of Alternative, Indie, and Folk Rock with bands like Augustana, Death Cab For Cutie, Counting Crows, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Old Crow Medicine Show, and John Mayer, who all ended up influencing the style of music I wanted to play.”
He’s been playing guitar and harmonica for about six years, but it’s only been in the past few years that he got serious about songwriting. “I’d say the first decent song I wrote was ‘Leave Me Lonely,’ about my best friend who died in a car accident back in 2008. Music for me has always been a way to channel my emotions, so I've always tried to be honest and write about anything I was truly feeling at the time, and so far I'm really just writing about what I see and where I’ve been.”

Friday night at The Haven had another terrific bill on tap. The three local bands, Gemeni, Leaving Haven, and Ratham Stone had several things in common; talented Orlando musicians, good music, and one fact that materialized shortly before the show started, each band had a set of twins in their line-up.
Gemeni was up first. Twin sisters Gina and Lisa Gomez played an acoustic set of their original music, with Lisa on keyboard and both women trading lead vocals on songs. For their last two songs, “A Stake in My Heart” and “Trapped” they were accompanied by Calvin Hawley on keyboards for his first show with the ladies. On “Trapped” they were also joined by Jaron Clark on violin and a surprise guest appearance from Ian Buddha on drums. After their set they were handing out free copies of their four song demo, which is a terrific sampler of their soulful yet edgy Rock/Pop music.

There are fewer better things to do on a Saturday night in Orlando than to attend a FREE fan appreciation show by some of Orlando’s most popular local musicians. The all acoustic show at The BackBooth highlighted the talents of several of the areas top singer/songwriters.
Orlando band Ratham Stone's members, Adam Lipinski, Joe Hodgin, Andrew Maffettone, and Andrew Lipinski, had so much fun at their CD release show on Friday, they continued the party Saturday night. Their set included several songs from their newest CD Enough to Last including “Dancing in a Rainstorm,” “You're My Girl Tonight,” and “Where We Can't Love Anymore.” The band brought Brooke Valadence on stage with them for “Lost” another song from the new CD. They closed their set with one of their more popular songs from an earlier release, “Eastbound Train.”

Orlando Indie-Alternative band Ratham Stone hasn’t been on the scene for very long, but they are already preparing for the release of their second CD. The band has set the national release date for their latest offering, Hearing Colours, on November 30.
Band members Adam Lipinski (vocals), Joe Hodgin (guitar), Daniel "DPak" (bass), and Andrew Maffettone (drums) credit their dedication to the band and their music as the key to the band coming along so quickly. “Whereas most bands say they should do this, should do that, we say (we) should do something and start making it happen right away,” said Maffetone recently.
It doesn’t hurt that band member Hodgin is part of Tachyon Pulse Productions and has a degree from Full Sail University. Tachyon Pulse Productions is an Orlando based professional recording and mixing facility, touting itself as an affordable place for an artist to not only create a professional recording but also all the surrounding media as well, including video.
Ratham Stone’s music has a diverse sound, due in part to the varied musical backgrounds of each member. On Hearing Colours one can hear classic influences from Folk, Blues, and Southern Rock seasoned with Modern Rock and Rap, blended with vocal harmonies into a fresh, focused soundscape.
The Hearing Colours CD release party and Second Harvest Food Bank benefit will be held at The Social on December 2, with the band adding a second guitarist for this special show.

Orlando band Ratham Stone is set to release their second CD Hearing Colours on November 30. On this CD band members Adam Lipinski (vocals), Joe Hodgin (guitar), Daniel "DPak" (bass), and Andrew Maffettone (drums) bring together a distinctive blend of musical styles melding into a classic sound under the large umbrella of Indie Rock. The songs are a diverse collection with varied tempos and sometimes complicated musical arrangements combined with added elements such as a string quartet, rap, and assorted sound bites.
The up-tempo song “Anywhere Away From Me,” opens the CD and launches what seems to be a common theme of separation present in most of Lipinski’s lyrics “I’m finding a way out / I’ll be the last one standing / I’m gonna leave you somehow.” Another up-tempo, catchy song “Grab The Gold” is the bands fist single from the CD, complete with an official music video.
“Late Night” is the CD's standout track. The song showcases the band’s talent for musical composition and production, plus it’s loaded with extras. The band’s vocal harmonies shine as the keys and strings weave a tender thread throughout the song. A guest appearance from Central Florida rapper Cee Baby is an added sonic treat.
The band revisits “Map of New York” from their earlier release Down For Whatever. The harmonica and harder guitar sound in this latest version give the song a whole new edge.
The CD closes with the softly flowing “Maybe” and its hopeful line “maybe you’ll come back to me.” The quality of the songs on Hearing Colours should certainly bring listeners back for more.
Hearing Colours will be available iTunes, Amazon, and CD Baby.
Ratham Stone will have a CD release party at The Social on December 2 with Orlando bands The Reprieve, Stockholm, and SMB Project. It is a "Music Feeds Basic Needs" benefit for Second Harvest Food Bank. - The Examiner. Orlando Newspaper
