"Party Rock"

Greg may not look
exactly like Axl Rose (and
isn’t that a good thing?) but
he has the sound of a Rock
Star. His on stage antics
recall the rock gods of old.
Greg is known to jump, leap to
super human heights, and dash
through the audience. The
crowd is a huge part of his
shows, whether it be climbing
onto a fan’s shoulders, or
throwing a fan over his own
shoulders and carrying her
onstage, Greg’s energy never
subsides.
Greg Raposo? Basically
he’s a guy who likes to rock,
and has the talent to back it up.
So grab a copy of Raposo’s
latest EP CD (you can buy it
on the band’s website, their
myspace:
www.myspace.com/raposo, or
at the merch table at any show)
trust me. It’s good - The Marymount Manhattan College Monitor

"RAPOSO Rocks Out!"

Greg Raposo looks like a rock star. When StarShine sat down to talk with him before his band took the
stage at the Battle of the Boroughs competition on Long Island, Greg was ready for show time. Dressed
in all black and complimented by a cool faux hawk haircut, tattoos on display, Greg definitely doesn’t
look like the same as some fans may remember.

As a member of the popular boy band Dream Street, Greg’s image was different. Even when he began
his endeavor as a solo artist, things were different. When asked about the change, Greg described it as
more of a progression than a change. “It’s not even a decision.” Greg replied “It’s just a natural
progression. When I was younger I came from a pop scene and slowly grew up and grew into myself
more and started becoming more influenced by the artists I listen to and it just naturally happened.”
When asked who some of those influences are, one that stuck out was the band Story of the Year. Greg
saw them live and said it was, “one of the best concerts I ever went to. It was awesome.” Some others
included veteran rockers like Bon Jovi and Aerosmith. One not so surprising source of inspiration? His
fellow band mates. “When we come together and we all kind of throw our stuff into a melting pot, we kind
of inspire each other to come up with the sounds that we do.” And there’s no doubt that they have
created something original.

With his band Raposo, the rock that Greg loves so much comes with an edge that some people may not
have been expecting. When asked to describe the band’s new sound he calls it, “mainstream rock and
roll. Stuff that we write in our bedrooms and put through some amps and electric guitars. Each song is
different from the next but when it comes down to it we’re just writing about what we’re feeling, our
personal experiences.” He tells fans. “We’re really not much different than you reading this so you can
probably relate to our stuff. You can interpret it your way and nobody’s ever wrong.” He also adds that the
music the band creates is exactly what he wants to be playing.

As we sit and chat, you can feel the buzz of excitement for the show that night begin to build. But how did
this opportunity come about? Greg explains, “It was an opportunity that came our way and we jumped on
it. We’re always down for battling; so it’s a fight and we’re gonna take it.” It doesn’t get much better than
that. And Greg really is passionate about what he does. He told us that he had been away and all he
could think about was how he wanted to get back home for the show.

When the band finally takes the stage a few hours later, there is no doubt in our minds that Greg truly
loves what he does. He is a consummate performer who brings his excitement and zeal with him to the
stage. From the moment he took the stage, he had the crowd on its feet and didn’t stop until the last note
of the last song had been played. Fans were packed up against the stage and it looked like the whole
venue was standing right in front. It was really an amazing sight to witness.

Before we left Greg to finish getting ready for the show, we asked him to send a message to his fans. “I
would just like to let everybody know that I’ve been doing this a long time,” he begins. “I’m not gonna
stop, so you don’t have to worry about that but I do want to say that if this is ever gonna happen, it’s not
gonna happen because of what I’m doing, but what’s really going to make a difference is going to be
you guys coming out and doing what you guys do best. When it happens, if it happens, it’s going to be
because of you.”

"RAPOSO Performs Live in Outside RSSC"

During Wednesday’s hour long
club/activity break on campus, the
Student Activities Board hosted a
live free concert outside the student
center. The rock band Raposo
performed to a small crowd of students
who were all curious as to
who these four guys were.
One student in particular yelled
out in the beginning of their set
“Who are you?” Lead singer Greg
Raposo did not answer this fan’s
question. He let his songs answer
it for him, telling her to listen to
the lyrics and she will find out all
she needs to know.
What we do know is that this
tight jean, plain white-t wearing
group of guys comes right out of
Long Island, New York.
The group consists of lead vocals
by Greg Raposo, Lou Vecchio
on drums, and Brian, Leo and
Jesse Corona on the guitar. The
group was also down a member at
Wednesday’s performance. Sean
Gallagher who usually plays bass
for the band was unable to attend
but Jesse rose to the occasion and
filled in his spot.
The members of the group each
have had their own personal success
before banding together to
form Raposo.
Greg at 16 years old earned a
platinum record and at 18 released
a solo album at 40 on the Billboard
Independent Albums chart.
His voice has a unique sound, as if
The Foo Fighters met The Killers.
Greg hit smooth melodic notes accompanied
by harsh screaming,
which made for great songs.
Lou is a third-generation drummer
who is endorsed by MRP
Drums and cited by Modern
Drummer Magazine as one of the
top ten drummers on Long Island.
Brian, Leo, and Jesse all are familiar
faces from New York punk
group Unlikely Heroes.
Three years ago the group began
to form. As explained
by Greg on
the group’s MySpace,
“We indirectly
have almost 8 years
of experience playing
together and
our differing styles
and influences really
complement each
other.”
While performing
here on Wednesday
the group sang
their own songs as
well as covers from
other groups and
requests from the
audience.
The group sang
their own rendition
of The Cranberries
song “In Your
Head” and Savage
Garden’s “I Want to
Stand with You on a
Mountain.”
Other songs that
the group sang did
not even have a title.
Front man Greg exclaimed,
“We call this song 1 because
it is the first song we wrote
as a group.”
Seems like a very simple way to
explain this group of guys who interacted
with their fans by walking
down the stairs and singing among
the students, even picking up one
girl and swinging her around.
The guys were very personable.
In between every song they would
pause and talk to the fans, asking
for any requests of songs they’d
like to hear (even non-Raposo
songs).
At one point Greg even began
smoking a cigarette and then asked
a fan to hold on to it for him while
he continued singing. It was quite
the laid-back set.
At this time, junior Stefanie
Moelius exclaimed that this was
her 98th time seeing the band,
which flattered and shocked the
guys of Raposo.
“There are people in our audience
who come to the show because
they find sense of community
through our music, and I love
that we share that,” said Greg on
the group’s MySpace.
If you missed out on Raposo’s
concert last week you can check
it out on YouTube at http://www.
youtube.com/user/raposobandny.
Raposo’s next gig will be this
Friday, October 10th at the Blaggards
in NYC. The group will be
going on at 10:45 p.m.

show, then be sure to check out

Bio

New York-based rock band RAPOSO is destined to brand their stamp on America’s legendary rock-and-roll lineage. Supported by an international fanbase, RAPOSO is on constant demand to tour. Recognizing the everyday struggles of the millennial generation, RAPOSO’s songs address every listener as though written just for them. “Music defines who I am; it’s been the one constant in my life,” says front man Greg Raposo. “There are people in our audience who come to the show because they find sense of community through our music, and I love that we share that.”

The sense of universality in RAPOSO’s music comes in large part from Greg’s keen lyrical insights and memorable melodies. His command of a crowd is undeniable and his stage presence is often compared to Bruce Springsteen. Greg's rich voice cuts through the screams of his audiences with authority – heart wrenching and smooth in RAPOSO’s powerful ballads; invigorating and anthemic in their arena-rock songs – Greg’s vocals are delivered with pure emotion that can only come with years of experience.

Greg’s impressive seventeen-year career spans both genres and continents. His face has been seen on the covers of every popular magazine in North America and his voice has been featured on radio stations around the world. A New York native, Greg has had the honor of performing many of America’s largest concert venues, including Nassau Coliseum and Jones Beach Theater. At sixteen years old, Greg earned a platinum record (one-million units sold) and at eighteen released a solo album at 40 on the Billboard Independent Albums chart; his charisma, performance quality, and popularity spawned a Greg Raposo: Live in Concert DVD in 2004.

“I have big goals for the outreach of my music,” Greg states, “And I have total faith in myself and my bandmates. The key to a successful rock band is longevity, and I know that we really have that potential to last.” Greg’s conviction in the talents of RAPOSO’s members is well-placed: drummer Lou Vecchio is a third-generation drummer who is endorsed by MRP Drums and cited by Modern Drummer Magazine as one of the top ten drummers on Long Island. Having played the drums since his foot could reach the pedal, Lou's tight rhythms and passionate playing brings a distinctive groove to the RAPOSO sound. Bassist Sean Gallagher is a classically trained upright bassist, a unique talent he employs in some of RAPOSO's ballads, as well as translating into complex contramelodic basslines on the electric bass to complete RAPOSO's rock sound. Completing the top-notch lineup are Jesse Leo and Brian Corona on guitar; both familiar faces from New York punk group Unlikely Heroes, whose drums were previously helmed by Lou. The longtime musical partnership of Jesse, Brian, and Sean, as well as Greg and Lou, lends itself to unparalleled chemistry both onstage and off. Previously the lead singer of Unlikely Heroes, Brian's high-pitched voice harmonizes flawlessly with Greg's deeper tone. "Three years ago I stole Lou from these guys, and today we're all in a band together," explains Greg. "We indirectly have almost 8 years of experience playing together and our differing styles and influences really complement each other."

RAPOSO has the dynamic combination of talent, credentials, and passion to not only be successful, but true 21st-century rockstars. The motivations of RAPOSO to bring music back into the hands and hearts of their generation are pure: Greg prefers to let the music speak for itself, stating simply, “We’re doing this for passion. This is what we love. This is how we define ourselves.”
