Today is the birthday of singer/songwriter and long time favorite of mine, RACHEL FARO. i started listening to her music back in the late 70's and was mesmerized by her vocals and exquisite song choices. I'm thrilled she is still performing and still producing amazing music! From her WINDSONG cd we heard two songs, the title track WINDSONG and RICHARD FARINA'S song THE QUIET JOYS OF BROTHERHOOD. Happy birthday RACHEL! - Deb Anderson
Rachel Faro’s songs express a global perspective, both musically and lyrically. “Windsong”, with its signature dulcimer sound, and the anthem “This Shall Endure” encourage us to have vision and heart during these dark times. Celtic, country, folk and blues stylings are flavored by Indian instruments such as the sarangi and bansuri bamboo flute. Lyrics adapted from poetry by ancient Chinese poets mingle with the sound of an Irish orchestra in ‘Dagger Dance’; ‘Touch of the World’, a song of edgy passion, contains both Indian clay pots and guitar feedback . And yet the production never sounds contrived; it all falls together quite naturally, with an uplifted and a harmonious quality throughout. - J. poet
"...Rachel's songs are full of content and for once it is not neurotic or bizarre. She represents an artist who is asking some serious questions and has managed to put it all to music." - Colorado Daily
Fantastic! This release of Windsong reaches the soul. Mine was swept away from the beginning "with the wind" as each song speaks to me in only a way that true talent can project to her listener. So relevant to our times....

Been a long time since Rachel Faro gave us her music. Her voice is still wonderful and luscious. Windsong is delightful.

Rachel Faro has led a colorful musical life indeed. As a singer-songwriter her RCA albums from the 1970s, Refugees and Rachel Faro II, both produced by John Simon and featuring musicians as diverse as Tito Puente, Michael Brecker, Bonnie Raitt, Eric Weissberg and the Pennywhistlers, remain cult favorites to this day. (Her first album, Refugees, is soon to be reissued by RCA/Sony and should be available on iTunes by mid-February 2012.)
In the 80s Rachel turned to production, producing folk and blues albums by Odetta, Chris Chandler, Satan and Adam and Paul Milns, plus documentary film soundtracks, one of which The Divided Trail, a film on the Native American experience, received an Academy Award Nomination.
In the early 90s Rachels musical world turned to Latin and World Music. She produced albums by Eddie Palmieri, Bobby Sanabria, Yomo Toro and Cuban a cappella wonders Vocal Sampling. After countless research trips to Cuba and Venezuela she formed Ashe Records, a Rounder Records distributed label, which specialized in music from the African diaspora.
In the new millienium Rachel has collaborated with Sammy Figueroa, the world-reknowned percussionist, producing three albums with his band the Latin Jazz Explosion, two of which received Grammy Nominations. She also produced the all-woman chorus Brazilian Voices, tracks with Colombian diva Saavedra and Venezuelan songstress Maria Rivas and an album of Zimbabwean mbire music with the late Shona master Ephat Mujuru., .
Encouraged by her fans in Japan and by South Floridas nurturing and vibrant folk scene, in recent years Rachel has resumed her career as a singer, this time combining her two worlds of Americana folk/pop music with the Latin trova tradition.
