"Unsigned Friday: Introducing... Queen's Troubadour"

This week, getwestlondon 's Emily Chudy caught up with London-based "soultronica" band Queen's Troubadour.

Queen's Troubadour are a mix of soul, electronica and rock they call "soultronica".

Lead singer, Pierrot, said: "We don't really like to put our music in a box; we like to experiment with different style and sonorities, to keep our sound interesting and innovative. Our music is definitely soulful, in the real sense of the word.

"It's soulful because it's a reflection of whatever state of mind we're in when the song was written. We like to combine that with electro injections and rocky live arrangements: we sometimes jokingly refer to our music as Soultronica."

The band are a five-piece, which includes Pierrot on lead vocals, Mel on keyboard, Magic on bass, Ollie on guitar and Michelle on drums.

Pierrot said: "Sometimes we like to tell a story or send a message through a song. I intentionally wrote the song We Shall Be Heard And Great to make it our inspirational anthem. I put in there all of the things I wished someone would have told me during my adolescence ("you're going to be fine, keep on keeping on, never give up"). Apollo , instead, is like a love letter to lady Inspiration, which is that invisible force that allow us artists to do what we do."
Pierrot said: "When it comes to our favourite artists, the five of us all come from different backgrounds and musical education. Mel on keys for example, is more of the electro head of the band. Magic on bass and Ollie on guitar are more oriented toward jazzy musicians and sonorities. Michelle on drums and I come from a soul/funk background.

"Lately, we're quite digging the work of Swedish born Seinabo Sey. We actually usually play her song, Younger, during our live shows."

Queen's Troubadour have played concerts and gigs all over London, including west London locations like Piccadilly.

Pierrot said: "All of us have been singularly involved in the London music scene for quite a while, but we've been making music together for a year, where we've spent the first six months working on our sound and records."

Their single, We Shall Be Heard And Great, is available to download from iTunes.

Pierrot said: "We are currently working on new material that will hopefully be part of our debut LP. In the meantime, we're getting ready for the 2016 festival season.

"We're very excited for the new year; we know there are big things awaiting us! - Emily Chudy from Get West London

"Live performance review – Queen’s Troubadour"

If you haven’t heard of Queen’s Troubadour yet, well – now is time to check them out. This five piece band tout themselves as ‘Soultronica’ – jazz fusion and soul imbued rock, who bring a special kind of emotion to performances. We checked out the video for their live appearance Live In The Attic to get a sense of what they were all about.
Right from the beginning, the velvety tones of the lead singer had us hooked – it’s like being taken on a magic carpet ride of melody, tantalised by soulful tones that hit all the right notes. Just as we’d become thoroughly seduced, the drums started, and the melodies were combining in bass and guitar ecstasy, all pulled together with the threads of that wonderful jazz-esque voice. By the second verse the song has settled into a comfortable groove, like slipping on a knitted jumper and being enveloped by warmth. The whole track rolled over us with a silky joy, ending with a fabulous guitar riff that had moving our shoulders, right until the burst of jazz scatting at the end. A great Sunday afternoon song – we’ll definitely be seeking out more. - Jenny from Hoxton Amp

"Queen’s Troubadour- jazz fusion and soul imbued rock with lots of wigged out wiggly playing and a frontman with tood agogo and an edgy, exciting vocal…something of Weather Report in the playing or progressively soulful in the sense of Stevie Wonder circa Inner Visions etc…Wonderfully engaging.” (Bugbear)
