The indie electro-popsters were a treat to watch. Front-man Renars Kaupers provided the groove and energy that kept us shuffling to the beat. Finding out about them through MML 2013 really underscored the heartbeat of the festival, which was music discovery: that moment when you chanced upon a band that did not appear on your radar before, that feeling of a nice surprise. Did you know that Prata Vetra is Latvian for brainstorm? - City Nomads

Jeff: Prata Vetra is a band made up of four best friends who grew up in Latvia in the former Soviet Union. Hope and freedom were a huge part of their upbringing and it comes through in their music. Simultaneously brooding, ethereal and full of hope, their lead single ‘Lantern’ shines like a beacon. - Sonicbids Corporation

First up were a pop/rock band from Latvia who go by the name of Prata Vetra, who ended up being one of the most talked about bands of the weeks. That's not just because you rarely see a band from Latvia - though it no doubt helps - but they were a damn fine outfit, too. They featured some great bass, tight melodies and even a marriage proposal for a Singapore based Latvian, which you can see below! Their shirts spelt out "WILL YOU MARRY ME?". Nawww. Prata Vetra were reminiscent of Dappled Cities, so if you're a fan of the Sydney group, this is definitely a band worth checking out. - Heath Media & the AU review.
Prata Vetra are rockier than expected, with funky basslines, 80’s toned crystal synths and dramatic guitar licks. The audience shush loud talkers and lead the quieter songs, chanting the words before Renars begins. It did start to feel like we were the only ones not singing along, but only because we didn’t speak the language: if we did we would’ve joined in eagerly. A strong sense and pride and unity flooded the venue and Renars was clearly humbled by everyone’s participation. - God is in TV

The sun shining in the sky got a respectable competitior in Korso’s Ankkarock, when Latvian BrainStorm-band’s vocalist Renars Kaupers came on the stage.
Mick Jagger of the Baltic countries is looking for someone as good as him in swinging the hips: if someone swings more than Renars, there is the danger of breaking bones. You could also give with good conscience Renars the prize of The most positive person of the year. The audience had the energy to get wild of the band’s positive “message” too.

Bio
The Story of Prata Vetra is that of best friends who grow up together, went to the same school, shared the same dreams and together fulfilled them. They come from a unique generation. Born in Latvia which was then part of the giant Soviet Union, they experienced a Soviet upbringing, the battle for a freedom and were part of the first generation to embrace new possibilities the freedom brought. Experiencing these two radical systems has shaped their musical style.
After Prata Vetra conquered the hearts of music lovers in native Latvia and became a household name, the band took a chance on reaching the audiences beyond the borders of their motherland. PRATA VETRA during their career have released albums in Europe and Russia, supported bands like “R.E.M.”, “The Rolling Stones”, “Depeche Mode”, e.t.c..
World-known photographer Anton Corbijn has made photos for three albums and designed the logo of the band. As A.Corbijn has described: “There is this beautiful thing that great bands have something… Identity and I think PRATA VETRA has that,”
New album 'Another Still Life' was written and recorded in the historic town of Hudson, in the Hudson valley upstate NY, and was mixed in a small studio beneath Radiohead's management office in Oxford, England.
The lyrics for the album's title track are made up entirely from the titles of paintings, rearranged and formed into a cohesive song.
The song “Lantern” from their new album “Another still life” (available on Itunes worldwide) tells the story of the bands childhood, the forming of the band and of their stadium size success in the Eastern Europe.
Prata Vetra last summer toured in native Latvia gathering 89 500 people in 7 dates. (Latvia’s population is 2 million) In autumn 2012 band did a tour Russia in support of the album release there. Prata Vetra is set to play this season at following festivals - "The Great Escape" and "Glastonbury", UK, "Music Matters", Singapore, "Nashestvije" and “Kubana”, Russia, “Watergate”, Estonia, “LMT Summer Sound”, Latvia and “Culture Collide”, USA.
