From there I was torn because had two reliable recommendations for an Irish session. One was at Chief O'neill's pub on northwest side which woulda been a drive. Second one, I could walk to motel, was Halsted Harp recommended by Jeff Lindblade. Opted for the closer one and met Patrick and Karen Cannady, pipes and fiddle, Joe (forgot last name), 75 year old Irish box player, and Steve younger guy good bodhran player. Turned out to be the practically perfect session. One person on each instrument, great tunes, place wasn't noisy at all, and man could those guys play. Patrick's playing especially knocked me out-- one of those guys who works the regulators and can tear up the slow airs. I asked him after one "holy cow man, I thought I heard a major 7th chord in that one" and he said with a twinkle "yeah there are several of those." I really like session where you know about 50-60% of the tunes, and there are several that you have to bring back from a long slumber that only come about the second or third time around. Nice folks and great time. Once I started playing with them, the pints kept coming until about 11 terty.

Patrick Cannady (uilleann pipes and whistles) and Karen Cook Cannady (fiddles) began playing together as a duet in 2001.
Inspired by recordings of famous pipe-and-fiddle duets, they have spent countless hours learning and playing Irish traditional music with Chicago's community of musicians and given it a unique voice with tasteful arrangements on the pipes and fiddle. Their music is arresting, spare, unhurried, and rhythmic, using the full sonic palettes of both instruments and "lift" inherent in the melodies to great effect.
They are regular performers at Tionols (uilleann pipers' gatherings) around the USA. They have performed at the St. Louis Tionol in St. Louis, the Great Northern Irish Pipers' Club Tionol in St. Paul, the Southern California Uilleann Pipers' Club Tionol in San Juan Capistrano, California, the East Coast Tionol in East Durham, New York and at Irish festivals such as Irish Fair in St. Paul, Minnesota and at IrishFest Chicago and IrishFest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They performed at Chicago CelticFest for many years in the Uilleann Piping Tionol Tent.
They lead a uilleann piper's gathering, PIOBAIRI every month at the Irish American Heritage Center, raising awareness of the uilleann pipes in Chicago. They are active in Chicago's own traditional music scene, doing gigs all over Chicagoland, hosting a north side session and supporting a a south side session of older Irish immigrant players. In addition, they are sought after performers for weddings, house parties, and St. Patrick's Day events.
