"Phil's Perfect Situation"

Phil Tweed is a local talent who has just released his second CD, called "Perfect Situation". It is an acoustic, 'unplugged' recording featuring solely Phil's rich vocals and his amazing piano skills. It is a beautiful recording, extending over an hour of light jazz, intimate ballads and a few faster numbers. Ten of the tracks Phil penned himself, stand outs being the wistful yet funky "Enchiladas" (Phil says he really wanted to write a song with that word in it ...), the award winning "Cascade" instrumental, the reggae inspired "Casual Liaisons", the two beautiful love songs he wrote for his wife Jodi (one was the song that Jodi walked down the aisle to ... quick, get me a box of tissues) and the thought provoking "Time". Seven are covers of jazz standards such as "The Way You Look Tonight", "The Nearness of You", and the samba inspired "Nature Boy". The album is perfect for an evening with friends having dinner and some nice wine!

Phil has been performing in the Valley now for over 4 years. He is the resident entertainer at Harrigans Irish Pub every Thursday night for the New Orleans Piano Bar, and he also plays every Saturday night at the Grand Mercure Hunter Valley Gardens. He also performs at many weddings, receptions and private functions. A celebrant, Phil also performs wedding ceremonies occasionally, but has never yet done both celebrancy and music at the same wedding!

Phil has won many major awards with his singing and songwriting - most notably in 2007 he won Best Instrumental in the Australian Songwriting Awards, he won an Honourable Mention in the USA Songwriting Awards (only the fourth Aussie to have ever won anything in this competition, with over 20000 entries every year), and he also won Best Male Vocals and Best Instrumental in the ABC Newcastle Music Awards.

Phil, his wife Jodi and family have lived in Branxton now for nearly two years, moving here from Newcastle because of opportunities that arose for their business "The Style Group". Phil and Jodi are both very busy building the profile of their company. Specialising in Music Production (Phil's side) and Event Management (Jodi's side), they have won some solid contracts, including the event management for Hunter Valley Gardens, Morisset Mega Markets, Speers Point Carols 2007 and Hunter Valley Gardens Carols 2006 and 2007. They have secured some high profile recording contracts, including (Australian Idol) Marty Worrall's single release "One Day" (featured on Video Hits and Rage), Vegas Dragons (a Sydney based progressive metal band), Misa - (Newcastle based dance/pop sensation), Wild Rose (Perth based pop rock singer), and advertising campaigns such as Pentons Hair Salon (NX FM radio campaign) "Kidspace" (HVG), Harrigans Irish Pub and St Philips Christian College TV campaign.

They have five children (Jenny - married to Luke with baby Riley, Josiah 13, Abbey 11, Wilson 9 and Layla 7). If you are interested in purchasing a copy of Phil's CD, please call him on 4938 3518 or email phil@stylemusic.com.au - Greta Branxton News

Bio

Phil Tweed is an award winning singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. He is a featured artist in the New Zealand Jazz Festival 2010. In November 2003 he recorded with his band a live concert at the Soapbox Cafe in Newcastle, Australia.

From that live concert, Phil has won the following awards:
USA Songwriting Competition - Honourable Mention
Australian Songwriting Awards - Best Instrumental
Newcastle Music Awards - Best Male Vocals
Newcastle Music Awards - Best Instrumental

Phil's vocal style is smooth and silky, with an enormous 3 1/2 octave range, he will draw the listener in with soft, intimate and 'breathy' vocals, and then hit them with full voice high notes, with a wide range of subtleties in between.

His music is a blend of jazz, pop and funk - sounds like a cross between Jamie Cullum, John Mayer, Steely Dan, Norah Jones, Sting and Stevie Wonder. Phil's tastes are very eclectic, being classically trained on the piano with both a degree and a diploma, he has also performed jazz piano for many years. His piano style takes both influences and blends the two, mixed with a love for funk, pop and hip hop rhythms, it really is a unique style.
