Getting to Know Phil Cook
How would you describe your sound?
-I really try not to. I love experimenting with different sounds, so my sound is constantly changing. Just call me Alternative Hip-Hop for now.
Who/What is the inspiration behind your grind as an unsigned/independent artist?
-I think the biggest inspiration behind my grind would be my fear of failure, especially in a field I have such a passion for like music. No matter where my career leads me, it;s absolutely necessary that I’m successful at it. It’s what keeps me up at night.
What is the most significant achievement of your career thus?
-I’m a simple guy. I’ve found that it’s the little things that I find most significant. Just the other day, I heard my music being played in someone else’s car. Yesterday, this kid was quoting one of my songs “Lookin’ For Love” from my debut EP, Love,LIFE. To me, that validates everything that I’ve been working so hard for. (That was a dope plug, right?)
Any labels that you are looking to sign to in the near future or wish to speak with about joining their team?
-It’s like the NFL Draft. Once you make it to that level, you abandon all your childhood fantasies of signing with your favorite football team growing up. You just want to work with the people who give you an opportunity and can help elevate your career to the next level.
What does being Artist if the Week mean to you?
-It means so much to me! It’s really important to me that people hear my music, so I appreciate you placing me on a platform where this becomes a reality. It’s pretty freakin surreal man…
Tell the viewers one thing about you that they cannot find out by researching you online.
-Yikes. Dirty Laundry. I’m sure you wouldn’t find that I’m a super dork. Don’t let all the swag fool you. I’m a superhero fanatic. I may even camp out for the new Avengers movie coming out next year.

With the ability to blend many genres into his own unique style, Phil Cook is set to not only take over hip hop, but change how we all listen to music.
Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, Phil Cook already stands alone with his flow and charisma on the mic. During his very short but promising career in music, he has already been able to work with some of music's other rising stars. From rockin' shows with 2009 XXL Magazine 'Freshman 10' hipster Mickey Factz to gracing tracks produced by exclusively by ID Labs, a frequent collaborator of Wale and Mac Miller, the sky is only the beginning for this young artist.
Hardwork, dedication and pure love for his craft helped him to create his long awaited first solo project "Love,LIFE," also known by its code name "Project 0," was conceptualized from the pain felt over a spoiled relationship and the triumph felt after overcoming it. His 1st single "Interstellar," featuring Lonnie Haze, is steadily gaining momentum in Ohio's State Capital and has already been featured on several local blogs such as "The Double O" and national websites (grapevyn-ent.net).
With the drive and fire to be a music stalwart, Phil Cook is "blasting off" with a head full of steam, fire in his eyes, passion in his heart and courage in his soul.
