(Five on the dice)
She has her musical heart and soul in many places at the same time. She is educated as a classical cellist, she plays at jazz festivals and she has contributed on more than 35 norwegian pop- and rock recordings. Some biography in other words. But it is not her musical career that impresses when she finally releases her first solo album. Neither is it an obstacle, because Paulin Skoglund Voss flies high with "Dragonflies & Hummingbirds" on a playful and seeking journey while she makes breathtakingly beautiful music. She fronts the songs with her melancholic and soulful voice, while her whole family and a bunch of friends play their instruments. The way she has arranged the music is a consequence of what she has been doing over the last few years. The beginning of this album will make Katie Melua very envious, or maybe she will record it herself? We are talking about the incredible beautiful title track where Rob Coe surprisingly comes in towards the end with a rap sequence. Wonderful ! "Little Devil" almost holds the same standard, and when we after a few more tracks are served the gracefully appealing "Autumn song", we are ready to face another fall with melancholic minds and Paulin Skoglund Voss - Rune Slyngstad,Fædrelandsvennen
Paulin Voss
So, from Sweden we move across the border to Norway. Paulin Voss has a voice that is beautifully airy and occupied with longing. A classically trained cellist. Ms Voss has this pop lark down to a tee.
Autumn Song casts her voice against a bank of mournful strings, slowly uncoiling with a dab of tracey electronics before exploding into glorious techno-colour chorus. Imagine Goldfrapp co-writing with Chris Carrabba and you get an idea of its emotional pull. Down Below is so sharp and focused it could be the Cardigans. - music OMH
