Bio
The Parachuting Apostles have spent years proving themselves as one of Philadelphia’s most talented groups following in the musical legacy of their hometown. Mixing the technical prog-rock of King Crimson, the balls-out heaviness of Led Zeppelin, and the weirdness of Primus (with everything in between), the 5-piece band has brought their manic energy to every stage they’ve set foot on. From festivals and packed venues, to strip clubs and fashion shows, or basements and dive bars, the Apostles have played every type of audience imaginable, and left a loud impression on them all. After releasing their self-titled debut album in 2011, the guys continue to expand their sound with their brand new sophomore effort, Dishpig. The group is made up of Domenic Malandro on sax/lead vocals, Louis Graff on guitar/vocals, Kenny Luu on guitar, Jake Dean on bass, and Branden King on drums. As students at the original Paul Green School of Rock in Philly (where they first met up), each of the five members was already putting adult musicians to shame by the time they were teenagers, performing with legends such as Alice Cooper, Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), and Jon Anderson (Yes). With one listen to any of the band’s tunes, it’s easy to see why: Dom isn’t just a lead singer, but an actual frontman (who also plays double saxophones); the dual guitar assault of Graff and Luu packs a powerful punch, ranging from wild punk riffs, intricate jazz chords, and light-speed shredding solos; Branden is straight up one of the most impressive drummers you’ll ever see; while Jake’s muscular bass work is the band’s sonic anchor. Their music travels through tempos, time signatures, and genres (sometimes even in the same song), but always keeps an ear towards catchiness that makes you want to hear more.
