Open Channels

Open Channels was founded in 2011 by Jeff King and Tony Zucco. After spending time in bands such as The Square Waves and the short-lived Summer, they realized that scheduling practice and shows is nearly impossible when you share members with more established bands such as Ketamines and Fist City. So a new band was formed with a catch: This is your only band (for now).

It began as an exchange of new song ideas via e-mail with King living in Lethbridge and Zucco in Calgary. This exchange quickly revealed overlapping interest between King's shimmering Electro-Pop sensibilities and Zucco's addiction to frenetic New Wave. They manage to tread the common ground in these genres while still exploring their seemingly oppositional tastes. They use the same piercing keys, distorted guitar, driving bass, and unrelenting drums to produce a unique catalogue varying in influence from Joy Division and Talking Heads to New Order and Neil Young's Trans album.

This band only cares about one thing: Hooks.
