Despite how they gained the acronym name for the band, though it may be self explanatory, the Brooklyn-based guys from OMG are indeed a hybrid anomaly. Though they are fairly new into Brooklyn’s music scene (band formed in January 2011), this band is paving way to New York City’s cool underground spots and dropping some funky beats since they premiered. Fusing elements from Afro-beat to alt hip hop, and criolla to R&B soul, the trio made up by Peru-birthed guitarist/producer GC Castillo, Nigerian pianist/producer Olalekan and vocalist/songwriter Mojeed Amushan just brewed a brand new track.
Fresh out the oven, the band drops “Chase the Sun” off the upcoming 2011 LP debut Mr. Mars containing sonic-like synth grooves, funky hip hip beats, melodic keys and swaggy hip hop vocals. To go along with the track, OMG compiled a video with performance footage and other clips featuring the track and the band having a good time. - Remezcla Musica
WOW. OMG will most definitely have you saying oh- em -gee after listening to Fingerprint Experience, the group’s debut 9 track LP. With an interesting fusion of hip-hop, electro, rock-pop and African beats; OMG are guaranteed to be on repeat for at least the next few months. They’re addictive.
This Brooklyn based production team was founded in the early hours of January 2011 by Olalekan (Producer, Pianist), G.C (Producer, Guitarist) and Mojeed (Vocalist, song writer) and have recently boosted their exposure by opening up for hip-hop class act, N*E*R*D.
Ipod in hand, I begin the first track, Life In Drive, tapping my foot and thinking, ‘I could get used to this’. It’s not long before I’m not only moving my head but swaying from side to side and feeling confused as to how I should move. Picture this: head bopping, body popping, hip-hopping. It had me dancing like crazy. I have yet to experience something quite like this; an assortment of deep beats and clear vocal contributions from songwriter, Mojeed, that have been blended consistently by Producer Ola on the keys and GC with the guitar.
Each track will take you into a world of its own. Grab a summery mix of sexy slow jam vibes, seamlessly blend it with a hint of pop and a dash of hip-hop and voila! You’ve got it, the solution to every music lover’s problem; one song with all your favorite beats and melodies. You are probably sitting there asking yourself how is this possible. And for this question alone, I urge you all to reach out and experience the world of OMG. Not only did I enjoy the addictive catchy beats fused with the beautiful melodies, I’d also lost a ton of calories by the end of it.
There is no doubt that OMG will have at least one track that listeners will fall madly in love with. One of my favorites includes ‘A Liar.’ Not only is it a successful mix of smooth beats and an upbeat tempo, it will take the listener through the trials and tribulations of a confessed liar. For those of you looking for a track that can only be defined as fresh and funky, you will not be disappointed with ’80’s Baby’.
OMG are leading a genre of their own. They ooze diversity, creativity and individuality, with a confident view to make big moves in the near future. Watch this space.
Verdict: I need some more of this pur-lease! - secretsoundshop
OMG!(Feat. Robin Kill): Lost Boy
Music people everywhere, today’s submission is from Alternative Hip-Hop band OMG!, the trio is comprised of Producers Olalekan and G.C. along with songwriter / vocalist Mojeed. They are about to release their debut EP “Fingerprint Experience”. I hear that they have yet to perform…but I must say, the material that I have heard so far shows real promise. The trio sounds well polished for a first run. The material is well produced, fun and creative. Be sure to keep your eyes and ears open for these three. They are sure to be popping up more frequently on iPods and music blogs around. Enjoy. - The Invisible robot
