The best kept secret in music

If you were listening to last Monday's episode of The Hoist you would have heard our interview with Asleep in the Park. I hope their energy and fun vibe translated over the air, because based on their in studio performance and interview alone I went to see them at the Hi-Fi Bar in town on Thursday. They didn't disappoint; actually the fun vibe was taken up a notch with the extra room to move. Guitarist Martin had me chuckling with his odd ball banter with the crowd between songs...I could see why they've taken off in some wacky eastern european countries where they will be touring again shortly... - Matt Stewart
Se intampla in Suburbia.
- TimeOut Magazine, Bucharest (Romania)
ROCK IN THE PARK
Cum o fi sa dormi in parc? - Ellle Magazine, Bucharest (Romania)
After some hectic touring over the last few years that saw them head overseas, the Adios Motherfucker EP is the latest release from this hard-working Melbourne group. They certainly have a knack for good openings, whether it’s squelchy synths on Motherfucker, mariachi-style guitars on Adios Amigo or the sultry “Ahh yeah” at the start of Nobody Wants. Of course, there’s more to these songs than just the engaging introductions as they lead into grungy, electro-tinged rock songs that call to mind the ‘90s sounds of Brisbane bands Regurgitator and Custard, complete with irreverently humorous lyrics and a penchant for casual swearing. The band’s sense of humour is further revealed by the inclusion of two interludes that feature an odd British chap philosophically analysing masturbation over some excellently doomy basslines and eerie synth noises.

'Adios Motherfucker'
Asleep In The Park
(Independent)
Described as the bastard love child of The Sex Pistols and the B52s, Melbourne four-piece Asleep In The Park have released their latest EP, 'Adios Motherfucker'. Taking hints from the 90s grunge era and the modern indie rock scene, Asleep In The Park have a sound that is loud, grooving and energetic. Featuring production by Rick Parker (The Dandy Warhols, BRMC) the EP captures the wildness and power this band is rumoured to have on stage. 'Adios Amigo', a Flamenco-inspired rock track and the ultra-danceable 'Uncool' are the standouts.

If yer grandmother can’t pogo, leave her at home...
It’s like having an ice cold shower, or having your ears pinged with elastic bands or being jet propelled into outer space by means of a turbo boosted rocket via Uranus. All 3 of these together = a listening experience like no other, you’ve obviously and un-mistakenly tuned into Asleep In The Park. - Lu Cozma @ www.expatromania.ro

Bio
After a sweaty fan said "You're not asleep, you're on fire!" the band formerly known as Asleep in the Park renamed themselves to the more apt THE ON FIRES. At least they are no longer mistaken for a folk band.....
