Night Committee: I’ve always been the biggest Andrew Wedderburn fan, but this is my favourite thing he has ever done. “Hot Little Rocket” was like ‘90’s pop rock. This is more greasy. Dude has the most fantastic vocals ever. The guy is also a real published author.” - Fast Forward Magazine
As the lead singer and guitarist for Calgary post-punk band Hot Little Rocket (HLR), Andrew Wedderburn spent a decade doing what you’re supposed to do to become successful.
The group signed with cool indie labels, toured regularly, made a video and managed to get some radio play on modern rock radio stations.
But driving coast to coast in a cramped van isn’t high on the agenda for Wedderburn these days.
His latest band, Night Committee, was formed three years ago following HLR’s split. And Wedderburn says he’s more interested in being a great songwriter and performer than a rock star these days. - Metro News Calgary
Night Committee’s debut album, Crime, shows a lot of influences –– a bit of garage rock here, some residual post-punk energy there –– but what it doesn’t sound like to me is roots. But, as singer/guitarist Andrew Wedderburn tells it, that was the direction in which this band was going at first. - Beat Route

Bio
"If the 'Mats and Attractions jammed at a Mexican wedding and played soul and Husker Du covers, and Marc Ribot and Nina Simone happened to be guests at said wedding, and they got together that night and had love triplets who started a band, it would sound like Night Committee."
- Bug Incision (after hoisting a pint or 7 at the Ship and Anchor)
The throat and rhythm engine of Calgary post-punk stalwarts Hot Little Rocket (Andrew Wedderburn and Joel Nye, respectively), joined by scene vet Lorrie Matheson (Fire Engine Red, National Dust, Lorrie Matheson), have joined to make the sound of Cinco de Mayo as celebrated by the characters profiled in Michael Azerrad's "Our Band Could Be Your Life".
Wedderburn's wry humor and skewed but (com)passionate view of everyday life is front and centre as the band's lyricist and singer, and the three of them (Andrew on guitar, Joel on drums and Lorrie on keys) make a joyous racket, purposed to make you swagger, sway, and swing your hips across the dancefloor.
The Committee meets at night; they are in charge of the Night - and tonight Night Committee is yours.
