This Monday I did something i hadn't done on a Monday in quite some time; I ventured out of my home. I boarded my trusty streetcar and headed west to the Cameron House for "Unknown Idol", a monthly showcase of Toronto's lesser known musical talent. Nick Vescio, a recent Torontonian was by far the highlight of the night. Most of the people attending were there in his support and he did not disappoint. He opened with a song called "Humanity", which he describes as, "A letter from God, or which ever higher power you believe in, telling the human race that our survival is beyond his saving and that we must save ourselves before we lose everything." Big words from a young man who will only turn 24 in December. Nick moved to Toronto to follow his dream of making a name for himself in the Canadian music Industry. "Montreal is an amazing city," Nick explains, "but I knew that if I wanted to make something of myself, I needed to come to the entertainment capitol of Canada." So he did. Living in a basement apartment, working at a restaurant to pay the bills and writing/performing his music whenever he can; he's a living breathing cliche. But when asked about it, he smiled, "I might be living the cliche right now, but when i make it, everything I've done will be well worth the effort." And if it were up to me, he would make it. Great songs, great voice, great look, great stage presence; he's got it all. Now he just needs it all to fall into the right hands. Bio
Nick's story is a simple one. He loves to perform. From childhood you could always find him on stage or in the middle of a crowd. He loves people, and he loves getting a reaction out of them. Whether it's laughter or silence he is always looking for that reaction. Performing is a release for Nick. There's is an energy that flows through him when he sings. There is a power to his voice. Nick is influenced by artists like: U2, City and Color, The Arkells, Kings of Leon, John Mayer, Ray LaMontagne, Damien Rice, Dave Matthews, Drake, Eminem, and Jay-Z; and although he would love to one day be able to put himself in the same class as any of these artists, he knows there is still much work to be done. He just can't wait to get started!
