In an era when every musician is trying to be unique and different (for better or for worse), New Track City out of Federal Way, WA, have created their own genre. MC's Bem and Chi.Stone and producer Dru lay out every meticulously crafted verse with a palpable love for their work. Their fresh hip-hop style combined with jazzed up beats and real, meaningful lyrics will take you back to a time when rappers prided themselves on their creativity and heart, not their money.
Spring Exceeds Winter is the type of record that makes you want to put it on, sit down, and listen to it all the way through; it is that kind of experience. This album is a breath of fresh air in the hip-hop community, and I sincerely hope that they build off this massive success.
These guys were kind enough to thoughtfully answer all of my questions, which you can read below. Also be sure to check out their dope new video for one of my favorite tracks "The Wave". - Mugatunes.com written by: Sea Monstah
“There’s something about 808’s, upright bass, and saxophones, that conjure images of NYC buildings and bridges; however, New Track City are a hip hop group from Federal Way Washington (a town near Seattle.) Regardless of locale, they cleverly navigate jazz, hip hop, and big band music, I feel like i’m hearing something you’d find in the Village Vanguard or on a hot summer night at Prospect Park Bandshell. Many greats consider hip hop’s parent to be jazz, so to speak with rhythm is to play with rhythm, and New Track City’s latest is a hybridizing passage of both rhythms coming together with a creative fervor worth praise, – it’s the use of it as a power. But not to be outdone, the one experimental factor they work into the song is simply wonderful, a mid-song fade into an entirely new feeling and new world. The track “Loreley’s Song” is just one of many off this trio’s latest album titled, Spring Exceeds Winter, that keep you guessing; which element will come to the forefront, what personal story am I going to find here, and while their touring schedule stays true to the west coast, they’d be a great compliment to a Robert Glasper concert at Celebrate Brooklyn, and just as easily welcomed by a crowd for Yaslin Bey fans. - ELEVTRTRAX- written by: NADEEM SALAAM
