Bio
Nele, a New York-based electric soul/rock band, derives its name from the Kuna language indigenous to Panama and Colombia. Lead singer Elle Pierre chose the word "Nele," which translates to "spiritual healer," to both celebrate her cultural roots and capture her vision for the emerging band. Early this fall, Nele will releasing their debut EP, which includes the soulful single “Arrow,” a song that exemplifies the group’s positive message to overcome adversity through love and determination. The band consists of experienced touring musicians Elle Pierre (vocals), Benny Reiner (drums/production), Jesse Bielenberg (bass), Colin Rahim Mokhtary (guitar), and also features Francois “Frankie” Jeanty (keys). All the band members met organically on stage at famed hip hop jam “The Lesson” at Arlene’s Grocery in New York’s Lower East Side, except soul guitarist Colin, who Elle recruited after performing together at 20's-themed venue Ella Lounge. The band members have performed on national stages, such as Highline Ballroom, Bowery Electric, Sullivan Hall, the Living Room, and also Parisian stage Le China.
