"SXSW 2015 was an experience I will never forget. I attended the conference partially blind being it was my first time attending, and I hadn't known anyone personally to register. That said, I acquired the badge which gave full access to the conference, festival, and tradeshow events associated with the music portion.
"Equipped with 100-plus hard copies of my mixtape...I soon realized that even that was not enough considering the high volume of music lovers and contributors that were all around. So, instead of quickly distributing my CDs, I kept them on reserve for any influential people I encountered. In short, the CD served as my business card. Using the lessons I learned from last year's conference, I printed actual business cards [for this year].... These cards are also flyers to promote my social media accounts and newly created website.
"Unlike my first rodeo, this time I will reduce cost, distribute more, and travel lighter. A secondary benefit is it will be easier for people to accept and retain my paraphernalia. With so much going on it can be awfully easy to get lost in the shuffle. I have seen this from the perspective of an artist and a fan during this massive event. Artist. Engineer. Entrepreneur. Sound Designer. Music Producer. Educator.
Trevor, pseudonymously known as nakEdtruth, carries many titles that are oftentimes meld together for his artistic endeavors. His creativity began as a child drawing comics with a pencil and paper. He later found a pen and began to write. By the time he reached his teens, he was actively recording and performing songs as a part of a Hip Hop trio known as Pure Genius.
Still moderately active in music, the south Louisiana native went off to college to become an engineer. Upon graduation, he secured a position in his new career, but he also decided to pursue a solo career in music, which gave birth to the new moniker nakEdtruth. Late 2013, he released his first solo song and followed exactly one year later with his first mixtape, Still Young. Still Grown, which grew legs to become its own movement as the merch took off. A little over two years later he decided to change his career from engineer to full-time artist/entrepreneur.
After a three-year run off SYSG along with singles and features, he dropped another mixtape, Hiatus Rap (2018). Within that period of touring, perfecting his crafts and building his brand, nakEdtruth endured the true struggles of a starving artist, which happens to be a song title of one of the tracks on his first self-produced, solo, studio album, Innocence to Experience (2019). Among other highlights from that project was the animated music video for the song "Makeda" which was designed to inspire young women of color.
Now, nakEdtruth has returned with his sophomore album, GROW. This project is meant to display his new and developed skills as an artist as well as his growth as a person. Through this body of work, he intends to showcase his skill sets in creative direction and sound designing (for which he recently earned a master's degree). Therefore, be on the lookout for all sorts of new and different types of content.
