Bio
The Patrick Godbey Band – over the years and by indiscernible degrees – evolved into something deserving of its own name: My Man Godbey is a harder, louder, and less radio friendly version of its former self and an unlikely amalgam of Black Sabbath, Bob Dylan, and the Grateful Dead. Born and raised in Houston, Patrick D. Godbey is best known as the guitarist for Dresden 45, the legendary Texas hardcore band. During their most active years (1988 to 1992) a teenage Dresden 45 help shape a guitar-driven variant of punk called "hardcore punk," becoming, as the Austin Chronicle noted, "one of the most beloved acts to emerge from this era." After not performing for more than a decade, Godbey formed the Patrick Godbey Band in 2004, and the band released an eponymous CD in 2006 -- the CD is a collection of 12 carefully wrought original songs performed, not by studio pros, but by an honest-to-god rock 'n' roll band. A punk rock veteran and a musical omnivore, Godbey may be, as he puts it, "the loudest folkie on the planet." Godbey formed the second incarnation of the Patrick Godbey Band in 2008, featuring Jim Ghivizzani on bass, Jeff "Doc" Watson on drums, and of course Godbey on guitar and vocals, and it's this trio that eventually became My Man Godbey. Their first record will be a double live album to be released in 2015.
