"555 EP (review)"

From peaks and valleys, to the eye of the storm, the songs on Mytwilightpilot's debut, the 555 EP, named after a cult in their hometown of Houston, TX, captures the imagination and keeps you involved from start to finish. Through melodic implications and soaring guitars, to the windstorm rhythm section crashing down on you. Mytwilightpilot makes you feel like you're falling from an airplane, without a parachute, and for some reason you know everything is going to be OK because the trip is too enjoyable not to end with happy results. Their high-octane, fuel-burning gas engine kicks your ass time and time throughout the 555 EP, which lasts over thirty minutes (and only four songs). It's a long EP that could pass for a full-length, but doesn't. Houston's Mytwilightpilot revel in sounds, but somehow they don't come off sounding like they're basking in excess, a tough job for anyone, especially a band that has only been together a little over a year. I'll give this an A-. - In Music We Trust

"MyTwilightPilot"

Mytwilightpilot's debut release marries glorious elements of lo-fi and space rock for an enchanting pop mix. String arrangements dance around hazy guitars and twitchy basslines on 555, showcasing the band's mesmerizing sound. The members of this Texas five-piece work with their respective instruments as a means of creating a piece of art -- modern art. They're not as cerebral as Radiohead and nor entirely complex like Mogwai, for Mytwilightpilot are stylish with their craft. Maddening guitar work from Matthew Jackson on "The Static Chair" complements frontman/vocalist Matthew Crow's somber vocals. David Hankins (piano), Major Miller (bass), and Jimmie Zarate (drums) are equally flattering in presentation, particularly on the band's brightest moment, "Main Theme to 'Smoking Gun'." This 13-minute soundscape of abstract musicianship is an album standout of orchestrated chaos and Mytwilightpilot is captured by its dark romance, as well. 555 is a solid effort from an eager band that's unafraid to experiment in style and sound. - All Music Guide
