"Mouthful Of Daisy - Twice Renewed"

I'm not sure what a mouthful of daisies would taste like, nor do I think I want to know. Mouthful of Daisy, an alternative rock foursome from the Lotusland of Vancouver, British Columbia is a different story, however. Maybe it's because their Millennial Generation members with distinct names like J'ace (guitar/keyboards), Jon (bass), and Kaija (vocals) grew up in the shadow of Seattle, where so much great music was produced in the 1990s. Or perhaps they've been motivated by emerging bands from their own hometown whose heavy sound they hope to emulate, such as The Pack A.D., Japandroids, and Mother Mother. Whatever the reason, I've found myself giving Twice Renewed, MOD's latest album, repeated listens. (They have another full-length as well as an EP, all of which you can sample at MouthfulofDaisy.Bandcamp.com.)

This is some solid post-grunge with commercial appeal. Think Celebrity Skin-era Hole, only more indie pop. They're infinitely more edgier than supposed Vancouverite pop punkers Marianas Trench (the latter win out in the wannabe rockstar hairstyle department, however). While good music isn't supposed to have anything to do with image, you get the definite feeling MOD are being shaped around singer Kaija's voice. Not that there's anything wrong with that, as it's plenty strong without being overwhelming, evened out with a dose of BC Coast mellowness, and not afraid to reach back to '80s glam metal for inspiration. If I have any criticism, it's that all 10 tracks on Twice Renewed have a bit of a homogeneous quality to them. You've got a good voice, Kaija, with a lot of spunk to it, but this isn't a televised competition where you're in danger of being voted off for cracking slightly...

That said, it would not surprise me at all to see Mouthful of Daisy with a sizeable following in tow at a festival like Rifflandia in Victoria next year. Just don't be afraid to give 'er sometimes, OK? - Music Emissions

"Wicked Show"

"Mouthful Of Daisy’s performance, like their name, was both beautiful and unique. This female fronted rock band consists of a solid and driving rhythm section and subtle guitar work as a backdrop for their lead singer’s melodic lines to weave in and out of. I am sure we will be hearing a lot from this band in the future." - John Gold - Emergenza

"CD REVIEW: Mouthful of Daisy - Twice Renewed"

“Mouthful of Daisy’s second release Twice Renewed clearly proves this 4 piece is a force to be reckoned with in Vancouver, BC. The guitar has bite, the bass an drum rhythms have serious low end groove, the songs are all short and sweet musical experiences, and the overall production is solid. All in all it makes for a deadly combination. ” - Cyrus Rhodes - The Muse's Muse

"Mouthful of Daisy – Twice Renewed (CD)"

“Twice Renewed is a disc that is solid throughout; listeners should find the time that they need to sit and listen to its entirety. Mouthful of Daisy come forth in a very mature fashion, and I wonder where exactly the band will go in the years to come.” - James McQuiston - Neufutur Magazine

"Mouthful of Daisy: Twice Renewed Reviewed"

“it is a rejuvenated Mouthful of Daisy these days. Once removed from the confined tastes of their hometown of Vancouver; a new lineup in place and a chance recording session in New York City, the outfit is back making their brand of aggressive Indie/Alt with fervor.” - Chris West - Skope

"Mouthful Of Daisy: Twice Renewed – Music Review"

“Twice Renewed is not just a great title for an album, it is a central theme for the band MOUTHFUL OF DAISY.Had they came out at a different time than the present day, say fifteen years ago, they might be characterized as college indie or late blooming alt rock. However, today enmeshed in with the amalgam that is rock music, they are on good ground among their peers and those seeking something new and awesome to hear.” - Keith Chachkes - Hot Indie News

"An Impressive Weekend At The Pic"

February 16 2007

"Proving to be the crowd-pleasers of the night, Mouthful Of Daisy was among the most well practiced and well-polished acts of the weekend. This female fronted 4 piece showed a skill level and professionalism that really sets them apart."

- Nick Le Fanu - Emergenza

"Vancouver band comes back with second album"

Mouthful Of Daisy is a unique blend of female fronted alternative rock. Their upcoming album “Twice Renewed” is laced with melodic guitars, catchy melodies and driving rhythms that will playback in your head for days. They are the band to discover in 2012.

“We want to start promoting our upcoming album “twice renewed” which we recorded in New York with producer and VP of A&R at Chamberlain Records Anthony Santos. It will be released sometime in January or February 2012? the band said. Check them out when they play this new year promoting their new album. It has been almost five years since their release their first LP 1st Place winner. - Oswaldo Perez Cabrera - Producer & Public Relations (VanMusic)

"CD Review: Mouthful of Daisy 'Twice Renewed' Double Threat"

“Female-fronted Mouthful of Daisy hails from Vancouver, British Columbia - far away from the indie rock scene in America, but on target with a killer sound.” - Melissa Kucirek - Indie Music @ Suite101

"Mouthful of Daisy – Endings"

Vancouver four-piece Mouthful of Daisy started life in the spring of 2005. Since then they have released the 5-track “Zero” in 2005, the 11-track “1st Place Winner” in 2007, 10-track “Twice Renewed” in 2012 and 2013’s 5-track “Nomad’s Nation”. Their latest release, “Endings” was tracked and mixed at Echoplant studios in Coquitlam B.C. in the summer of 2016, the album was recorded by award-winning Canadian recording engineer and record producer by Ryan Worsley (Dear Rouge) and was released in January 2017.

Opening track “Savages” immediately highlights the quality of MOD’s playing. The rhythm section of Jonathan (bass) and Dimitar (drums) lay down a concrete foundation to allow the track to breathe and flow. It’s an upbeat alt/rock number with a few tempo changes cleverly building up to the ‘arm-shaking’ chorus. “Salt” slows the pace down a notch, vocalist Storm sounds amazing here. The track reaches elements of Creed and has a haunting, epic vibe. I love the production on this track. With lyrics as beautiful as “I feel like I’m drowning on the edge of his world” “Salt” is truly masterful’

The more commercial sounding “Candlestick” would make a superb introduction to Mouthful of Daisy, especially in reference to their song-writing abilities. I love the simplicity of the track and the innocence of J’ace’s enchanting guitar solo. The Joy Division-esk “Interlude (Coming of Age)” forms a bridge to the brilliant “Self Destruct”, what can I say about “Self Destruct”? It has to be one of the most solid alt/rock tracks I have heard. It has emotion, it is totally complete, it is honest and it’s one of those songs that you immediately want to play again.

The EP closes with the delightful intro to the magnificent “Stay”, another emotional song that has the listener drawn in from the very beginning. “Stay” just oozes quality and is by far the strongest track on the EP, IMHO. If this track doesn’t give you goosebumps then you need to check for a pulse.

MOD’s distinctive, alt/indie sound is a combination of catchy guitar riffs, smooth bass lines, driving drum beats, and powerful female vocals. MOD have secured quite a following and reputation since forming in 2005 and Endings proves that they are developing and mastering their craft on their terms and conditions. Mouthful of Daisy are certainly a band to keep an eye on. - Pete

Bio

Mouthful of Daisy was born in the spring of 2005 with the merging of four unique musical talents. While the band may seem like a standard four-piece group, MOD is anything but. The combination of catchy guitar riffs, smooth bass lines, driving drum beats, and powerful female vocals gives Mouthful of Daisy its distinctive, alt/indie sound.

In the winter of 2005, Mouthful of Daisy took that sound into the studio to record their first EP, Zero. Their next release was the 2007 self-produced LP, 1st Place Winner. After a brief hiatus, the band reformed and travelled to The Westfall Recording Company on Long Island, New York to record Twice Renewed. Released on March 2, 2012 with Anthony Santo as producer, Twice Renewed established Mouthful of Daisy as a band refreshingly unique in its musical approach.

Mouthful of Daisy feverishly followed up this album release with various shows in the Vancouver area. The positive reviews of Twice Renewed, paired with MODs captivating live performances, caught the attention of Tomas Costanza (Hollywood Undead, Blues Traveler, Clinton Sparks), producer and CEO of The Killingsworth Company in Los Angeles, California. After three weeks in the studio, and time spent mixing and mastering, Nomads Nation was released on September 3, 2013. MOD supported this launch by partnering with director Paul Bourque and creating a visually stunning video to the single, Statues. With this momentum, Mouthful of Daisy began to receive radio airplay throughout Canada and parts of the United States - they were also selected as a Fox Seeds Final 15 participant in 2013 and 2014.

The group started 2015 by writing and releasing the single,Horizons. They supported that release with shows throughout the summer in Western Canada and the Midwestern United States. At the end of the summer, the group filmed another music video with Paul Bourque for the single Horizons which was released in the fall of 2015.

This takes us to early 2017 and when Mouthful of Daisy dropped their brand new EP, Endings. Tracked and mixed at Echoplant studios in Coquitlam B.C. in the summer of 2016, the album was recorded by award-winning Canadian recording engineer and record producer, Ryan Worsley (Dear Rouge) along with Matt DiPomponio. The first single released, Savages, has garnered rave reviews thus far and has left people hungry for more!
