Within 5 minutes of meeting, singer/songwriters Michel Aubertin and Phil Grajko were singing a seamless jam of Bobs classic, Stir It Up. Michel, a traveling musician from the island of St. Lucia with years of experience singing every style of music, immediately was brought back to his roots-reggae foundation by none other then an acoustic singer/songwriter from Syracuse, NY. By the end of the song, they both knew they had something.
Both Michel and Phil have an undying love for classic, roots-reggae. Morning Sun & The Essentials aims to create innovative yet classic sounding reggae and world music. The challenge was finding the right dynamic between two distinct voices. Michels voice is one with exceptional range and power.
Michel can sing anything, Phil says. I saw him sing opera, legit opera. Its crazy. I no longer have to stretch my voice to something I dont have to. I have Michel.
With two unique voices, conscious lyrics and unforgettable melodies, MS+TE is making a name for themselves in the contemporary reggae, rock, folk and hip-hop scene (A full length album with Grammy nominated rapper/songwriter Kinetics is set to release in the summer of 2013).
Their debut EP, Love Agenda, featured appearances from Jerry Johnson and Num H.S. AmunTehu - Grammy award winning musicians from Steel Pulse and Burning Spear, respectively.
Love Agenda was released for free download at MorningSunMusic.com and was very well received among reggae lovers worldwide.
