Bio
Somewhere between the fast-paced, soul driven sounds of OneRepublic and the smooth voicings of Bruno Mars lies Monty Wells, a singer/songwriter/producer from Washington DC. Combining elements of pop, rock, R&B and folk, Monty has created a sound all his own; described as “Acoustic-Pop, but with a sense of relevance and soul”.
Monty's journey began in 2001; three days after his 18th birthday, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. While undergoing treatment, he spent the next two months bedridden and in constant pain. It was during this time that his musical abilities emerged. "One day, after radiation therapy, I grabbed this old classical guitar and started strumming; I taught myself ‘Island in the Sun’, by Weezer". Monty soon realized that the vibrations from the guitar body soothed his stomach
pain from the radiation treatment. He began playing guitar everyday and eventually wrote his first song.
Monty has made amazing strides over the years; turning former medicinal means into a full-fledged profession. Along with sharing the stage with various top acts from across The United States and Europe, including: Do, Will Anderson (of Parachute), Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers, and Matt Friction (of The Pink Spiders), Monty was selected for spot dates on the Rockstar Energy Drink Throw-down Tour.
Over the course of his career, Monty has written and worked with a number notable industry professionals including: Toni Cottura (N'SYNC and Backstreet Boys), Adam Powers (Kylie Minogue, Shamrock (T-Spoon), Serge Ramaekers (Laurent Wery, Sir G., T-Spoon), Andrew Goldstein (Fueled by Ramen Records), Keith Marshall (Dru Hill, DMX, George Clinton), and Hyplified (Ali -B,Yes-R).
