Monique has been performing on stage since the age of 3 1/2. Ultimately a shy girl, performing was a way to come out of her shell & express herself. She was in all the musicals throughout grammar school at Our Lady of Grace Regional in Somerdale, NJ & Highland Regional High in Blackwood, NJ (alum former Dancin' On Air host, Andy Gury), where she graduated 5th in the class. Monique interned at the ABC affiliate WPVI News Assignment desk, but quickly determined mainstream news was not so uplifting. From there she went on to become a commercial dance music & news radio air personality during her college years on Boss 97fm WBSS, & had her own high rated dance radio show in the South Jersey Shore area on FUN 98.7fm WFNN. Monique attended Rowan University earning a BA in Mathematics as well as Communications (Radio/TV/Film), and after receiving her MFA in Theatre from New York's Sarah Lawrence College where she also partook in internships at VH1 & the 103.5 WKTU Ru Paul Morning Show. Monique dove into all areas of the performing arts in which she was interested & had an ability including creating several campy dance music songs with social messages. Being of the American Revolutionary War hero / Declaration of Independence signer, Patrick Henry's lineage, although not rich, she "inherited" his freedom "peaceful" fighting spirit. Monique also has had several dance tracks on major labels.
Monique Marissa Lukens is a member of SAG-AFTRA. She wrote, produced, & performed in her own 2-hour dramedy mystery entitled MURDER UNDER A PORCH - NO KILLING INVOLVED in Philadelphia, PA, New Jersey, and Hollywood, CA. Don't worry, no one gets hurt, as she is an advocator for non-violence. She also performed at Philadelphia's Shubin Theatre as "Wooden Head" in the staged reading of Sal Darigo's WOODEN HEAD, a play about a alcoholic, whose "conversation" with his niece's puppet finally gets on the path to a clean & sober life. Monique volunteered for the The American Red Cross during the Hurricane Katrina aftermath knowing she could have been one of those affected, as growing up in part in Ocean City, NJ she experienced hurricanes, major floods, and blizzards.
With the West Coast more open minded (And a little warmer) to vegetarians and the like, as well as where the tv work is, Monique transplanted herself to Los Angeles 7 years ago from her original home state, New Jersey / Pennsylvania. She is concentrating on acting, dance music, and writing. The projects Monique selects to work on often have some kind of social message or benefit. Some of her songs touch upon gay issues/rights, attempted date rape, & the tragedies of drug use stemming from peer pressure. She hosted an independent weekly electronica / social topic show titled DUI ! Radio - Dancing Under the Influence of Electronica (MySpace.com/DUIElectronica) for two years bringing NJ & CA together as well as the rest of the world.
Monique's been a vegetarian for 11 years, for the past 6 of those vegan, & now for the past year mostly living food / raw vegan! She fulfilled a 1,000 volunteer signature gathering commitment to lessen farm animal abuse in California, & produced, hosted, & sang at a successful Hollywood Music Awards Electronica Showcase / Prop 2 Awareness Party! All of these actions helped in passing CA Prop 2 during the Nov. 2008 Election becoming the statute The Prevention of Farm Cruelty Act. She is guest starring in the new Clothes I Hate on Look TV where she is featured surrendering pieces of fur & leather clothing, which she though were imitation, or she wouldn't have purchased them!
Monique has volunteered for a plethora of events and non profit organizations while in Los Angeles including Songsalive!, American Cinematheque, Animal Acres, New Music Seminar, Southeast European Los Angeles Film Festival & the Inktip Pitch Summit. She's attended many music conferences as well performed multiple times at the WMC in South Beach Miami. She's also attended the Amsterdam Dance Event & MIDEM in Cannes, France.
