Billboard Latin Music Conference Winner Monica Giraldo Gets in Touch with the world.
Monica Giraldo didn't realize the showcase she had just performed at the Billboard Latin Music Conference in Miami was a competition. Until she won. "Suddenly my name came up, and I was like, What?..."
But her victory at the "We hear the Future" contest came after a concerted effort by Giraldo and her Colombian indie lable, Watts Up/Codiscos, to expose her internationally.

Colombia's Monica Giraldo takes a retro-minded approach to her music, but in that slight move backward she moves two steps forward. The music on 2008's "Todo da Vueltas" strips away any artificial post-production sounds in favor of a new, warm organic feel that focuses on her dynamic live band, who creates a bubbling blend of bossa nova and jazzy pop.
