Bio
Hitting the stage for the first time when he was six years old, Mitch Barrington is no stranger to the spotlight.
As a young boy, Mitch participated in violin, piano and vocal competitions at local and state eisteddfods winning multiple prizes, bursaries and age championships. At age twelve, competing in the Under 30s Own Composition section at the Australian Piano Keys Competition, he won second place for his piano composition Hope.
Influenced by the likes of Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, Goo Goo Dolls and Pete Murray, Mitch has been writing songs since his primary school years. However, as a singer/songwriter, his career didnt commence until the September holidays of Year 12, 2008, when at age seventeen, he spent ten days in Brisbane at the James North Productions studio tracking his self funded debut EP 'Life in Colour'. Having saved for years to finance the recording himself, Mitch put a huge amount of effort into his first CD and each song tells of a different side of him. A mixture of uplifting acoustic ballads and enjoyable indie rock, Life in Colour was written as a musical expression of Mitchs take on life. Love, determination, hope, fun and relaxation are all emotions experienced in the six tracks of 'Life in Colour'. The recording process was a substantial learning experience for Mitch and he came out of it a much more confident musician.
Following the successful release of Life in Colour, eighteen year old Mitch entered and won Sea FM's 'Battle of the Bands' Competition in early 2009. Consequently, he was hand picked by Australian rock icon - Shannon Noll, to open Nolls No Turning Back tour concert at the Moncrieff Theatre on the 20th March with a mixture of songs from the 'Life in Colour' EP and a handful of newly written tracks.
Later that month, Mitchs song Trying to Fly received second place in the internationally recognised Pacific Songwriting Competition 2008 Café/Scene Section.
As well as having airtime, interviews and live performances on over five radio stations locally and around Australia, stations in Vanuatu, Fiji and other south pacific islands have also added Mitchs songs to their playlists.
After having a successful first half of 2009, Mitch decided to co-ordinate a local concert to promote original music in his region. The event, officially dubbed Indie Colour, came as a pleasant surprise to the community and received overwhelming support from local businesses, magazines, newspapers and radio stations. On the evening of 17th July, at the Shalom College Performing Arts Precinct, fans of all ages got a taste of what was hopefully the first of many highly successful Indie Colour events at which Mitch premiered five new tracks to be added to his upcoming debut album.
In late July 2009, Mitch recorded his twelve track debut LP Breathe More Easily and spent another four weeks with producer James North at the St Lucia studio laying down the new tracks. The album will be officially released at the beginning of November.
Since then Mitch has competed in, and won, the 2009 Global Battle of the Bands Wide Bay heats and goes on to compete in the Southern Queensland Finals on the 1st November.
