Bio
Michael Borowski is a Philadelphia based pianist who has utilized over a decade of constant performing to develop a unique and progressive style. Drawing inspiration from music of all types, his solo acoustic sound has been compared to the simple melodies of George Winston combined with the technical skill of Keith Jarret.
Michael was raised on Classical music since the age of four. Initially attracted to the passion of Beethoven and the mysterious sounds of Debussy, Michael's thirst for a unique sound began when he was introduced to bands such as The Beatles, The Grateful Dead, and the various styles of pianists George Winston and Bruce Hornsby. Michael combines the sounds of Classical, Jazz, Rock and Folk into one extraordinary collective style.
Playing as many as six nights a week with countless musical projects afforded him ample time to hone his chops. It wouldn’t be long before the refining of his own artistic message coupled with a fresh, new outlook and a deeper musical/life philosophy opened him up to a whole new world of possibilities. Jazz legends such as Miles Davis, Coltrane, Monk and Keith Jarret, along with the more contemporary sounds of Bela Fleck, John Medeski, Jerry Garcia and Michel Camilo began heavily influencing his musical direction. Liberated by the idea of free improvisation, he was finally able to realize and focus his musical vision.
During his years as a professional musician, Michael has had the honor of sharing the stage with such artists as Blues Traveler, Keller Williams, Strange Folk, Rusted Root, Warren Haynes, New Riders Of The Purple Sage, and many others.
Currently, you can find Michael playing in bands such as Splintered Sunlight, the Northeast's most popular and recognized Grateful Dead tribute band, and The Dirk Quinn Band, a recently signed Jazz/Funk improvisational band, but it is in his solo performances where you can really see him shine and explore a whole new sound of music.
