Bio
Mike Muya moved to NYC from South Africa as a singer-songwriter driven by hip hop beats and acoustic blues. After performing all over the East Coast, Mike moved to Chicago to work on his EP and release more videos. He is currently working with Stonecutter Records to produce an EP. He was a featured artist on Schlagwerk, a German based Cajon company, during Golden Cajon Week. While in South Africa, Mike Muya was known for his acoustic Bluesy singer-songwriter sounds and often cited Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters and Leonard Cohen as some of his greatest influence. It took a move to Brooklyn to realize that he could indeed find a way to marry his love for hip hop beats. Another insight Mike had when moving to New York: to truly achieve the sound he wanted to create, he would have to do it himself. At the heart of Mike Muya's music is the DIY spirit. Mike creates all the beats himself, and his wife, a videographer, works together to create music videos. Writing songs is often a painstaking process for Mike, as it involves writing melodies, crafting lyrics, and creating beats--but that is what Mike Muya is all about.
