Love the CD..great vocals and just overall very cool. - Karen Doran, Evolution Promotion (Boston, USA)
Rating 5 stars
Is this the sexy, breathy female singer issue? We’ve got another one here in Carter-Leis. Michelle has a different kind of sexiness to her vocals, but sexy never the less. Michelle has a rock, blues, alt thing going on both musically and vocally.

Realize Records Signs Deal With Canadian Songbird Michelle Carter-Leis
Realize Records has inked a deal with singer/songwriter Michelle Carter-Leis. Michelle Carter Carter-Leis, a Vancouver, BC native, was discovered via Sonicbids in early 2009.
"I am so excited about working with this amazing team at Realize Records. Every person I've met and worked with so far has been truly wonderful, kind, professional, and committed to creating great music." The musical sound of Michelle Carter-Leis can best be described as sultry modern pop with nuances of contemporary Jazz. Michelle's bold charismatic performance is carried by a base of clean vocals with soaring angelic notes. Her powerful tone balances between soulful highs and melodic lows that permeate to the core of human experience. The rare purity of her voice ignites a sense of romantic idealism.
Carter-Leis' musical journey began as a young child, taking an interest in singing as early as age 3. She started her classical training at age 11 and continued until age 20. Carter-Leis attended Douglas College and studied privately at University of British Colombia with renowned opera teacher David Meek. Carter-Leis was selected to attend the Banff Center of the Arts voice intensive with Richard Armstrong in Alberta. Michelle states, "That workshop was influential in my transition from opera and classical music to writing my own music. The transition from student to artist was easy because I had always written my own songs as well throughout my studies." In 1999 Michelle auditioned for a new House/Ambient ensemble that became known as Mercury Sound Cartel. She performed and wrote with them for the next six years, leading to repeat song inclusion on the hit show "The L Word", as well as licensed songs for film and commercials. After the band disbanded Carter-Leis went solo and independently released her debut CD "Glass" in 2005. That recording led to performances at high profile venues in Los Angeles, Winterfolk V, New Music West festival and opening slots for such acts as Lucas Rossi and Trulio Disgracious.
Michelle Carter-Leis is scheduled to enter the studio in 2009 to record her debut CD with Realize Records. A&R rep Erica Scott states, "I think Michelle Carter-Leis is the perfect addition to the Realize Records label. She is a lovely person with an extraordinary depth of talent and an amazing sense of what works. She expresses herself freely in a fun refreshing way and always has an interesting story to share."

Bio
Michelle Carter is a Singer/Songwriter born in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. Now she calls Los Angeles her new home. She has been singing and writing since she was a child. She studied classically all through high school and went on to study Opera at Douglas College and University of British Columbia. In the early 2000's she decided to leave Opera and dedicate herself to writing original music and this all started with her first band "Mercury Sound Cartel". MSC was together 6 years. In that time they performed regularly and licensed several songs to various commercials, film and TV including 7 songs featured on the "L Word" First Season.
?
Quickly after Mercury disbanded in 2005, Michelle wrote and recorded her first solo project "Glass" with producer Alan Wong-Moon. She performed across Canada in several festivals, shows and TV performances. In 2008 she teamed up with Christine Connolly and Dave Thompson, together they wrote her follow up EP called "Today". Soon after the recording of "Today" Michelle was informed by Christine that she was moving to Los Angeles with 9 days notice..and they did! So now after living in LA for 4 years Michelle has been non stop writing, recording and performing. In 2010 she wrote and recorded her next full length record "So Simple" with producer Michael Woodrum. In the process of that record, she had the opportunity to work with some very talented musicians such as Simon Nagel, Drew Taubenfeld, Enrique Lara, Wes Switzer, Lucky Diaz and Shannon Hurley. Over the past couple years Michelle has performed all over LA and various festivals including Red Gorilla and South By South West (SXSW) March 2012.

2012 has been a great year so far... First she co-wrote her next records title track "Tequila Nights" with Christine Connolly and Simon Nagel. Then she headed to Austin for SXSW and a writing trip to Nashville where she co-wrote one of her next to-be singles "I Came Alive" with Arlo Gilliam. Shortly after her return she wrote with hit songwriter Jeff Trott (Sheryl Crow, Amee Mann), together they wrote "Come Back". The past summer was spent playing a lot of shows in Los Angeles, San Diego and even one in Vancouver, BC. This October she is headed back to the studio to record her next EP with producer Jeff Trott. Lots to look forward to early 2013!!!

Over the past couple years she has also been involved in a side duet project with Keith Megna. The two met as pool house neighbors while Michelle was recording "So Simple" . One night they went to go see a screening of the Classic Western "High Noon" at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. After that the soon be duo decided to write a song about the movie... 6 months later they recorded it....a year after that they now have 10 recorded original songs all inspired by classic films. They are very excited about this collection of beautifully tragic songs. Currently in the final stages of mixing. Due out sometime soon... look for "Carter & Keith - The Feel Good Tragedy of the Summer"
