"Meredith Watson's easy mesh of blues and folk took center stage at the Cornerstone Coffeehouse in Camp Hill Saturday night.
Her press kit, which feels more like a friend's personal gift bag, aptly describes her voice as both "eloquent" and "organic."
Watson's eclectic influences range from Hank Williams to Radiohead, and, thankfully, she is the first artist in too long who is a Sam Cooke fanatic. However, she is also a completely unique voice; a striking achievement in her genre.
With songs steeped in themes of redemption and spirit, Watson enchanted the audience. Though she is from Greenwich Village, her sound is decidedly more that of the Deep South.
After lilting her way through a series of slow melodies, Watson ended her set with a piercing and beautiful cover of "John Henry."
Every syllable evoked sympathy, without treading into overwrought waters. The entire performance was as if a world-weary soul were given a steel guitar.
While still young, Watson permeates the wisdom of an elderly hitch-hiker, walking the endless road, who is here now just to pass some time until her next trip into the sunset."

Meredith Watson is a gifted guitarist who is digging through the archives of traditional American music, tapping the source of the old songs with a nimble and eloquent new voice. Her arrangements are the result of organic transformation, maintaining the sentiment of the originals without a shadow of cliché. Over the last twelve months, she has garnered the attention of modern American blues greats Chris Smither and Jorma Kaukonen, who have deemed her “an auspicious young artist to follow.”
