Menna

Menna is the birth of a new wave of powerful, female musicians. One-part songwriter, one-part soaring songbird, one-part hair that could make Disney animators swoon - Menna is an amalgamation of musical perfection, wrapped in female empowerment, covered in a warm blanket.

Born Meredith Bandas in a small, sweltering suburb of Austin, TX, Meredith was birthed with music pulsing through her veins. The daughter (and granddaughter) of professional jazz musicians, Meredith found her powerful, smooth sound as a young adolescent, listening to the Dixie Chicks and singing jazz standards along with her mother and sister. Her high school years were spent experimenting with and honing her craft. Heavily involved with her high school choirs and other all-state ensembles, Meredith began experimenting with the textured sounds and layered vocals that would become her signature. 
In 2008, following in her musician siblings’ footsteps, Meredith made the pilgrimage from Austin to Nashville, TN, and began her journey to Menna. The transition to Music City was arduous and Menna’s arrival in Nashville certainly offered no grand fanfare. She struggled to find her own authentic voice in a city full of musicians and found herself wracked with a deep self- doubt that quickly began to chip away at her lifeblood.

While moonlighting as a waitress at a local taco joint, Menna attempted to quell her need to perform by finding work as a visual artist. She tried her hand at illustrating, storyboarding and art direction, but none of these mediums could fill the deep, seething urge within her to perform. She realized that the music pulsing in her veins could not be cauterized; she had to set it free.


In 2014, Menna teamed up with her brother and producer Brian Bandas to begin work on her debut, self-titled EP. The two siblings collaborated on the album’s production, feeding off Menna’s desire for a high level of musical purity and artistic expression. Drawing influences from artists like Joni Mitchell, Amy Winehouse, and Fiona Apple, Menna has created a hybrid sound that is all her own. Menna features layer upon layer of un-autotuned, vocal perfection, bursting at the seams with hand-played, authentic instruments, alluring melodies and brazen conviction. The debut project features a broad musical spectrum, from the chick-rock earworm "The Show" to the experimental anthem "Ode to Green", showcasing the young songwriter's breadth and depth as an artist.
