Powerful, versatile, infectious and soulful are the words that come to mind to describe Melissa Rose.  Unique yet different this young Toronto based talent is a self taught singer, songwriter, rapper, actor and dancer. She also writes poetry and short stories as part of her creative endeavours.

Melissa is not new to the Toronto music scene as she has toured and performed at notable festivals and venues across Canada. Her experience has helped develop and mold her signature sound.  Melissa takes pride in her song writing and melodolic arrangement capabilities honing inspiration from life and the people around her.

She credits her edge in the music industry to the type of genres she was introduced to at a young age. Melissa a Caribbean beauty is Vincentian, she grew up listening to Soca, Reggae, Oldies and Calypso.  This has led to her being able to have the vocal agility to sing many genres comfortably and authentically.

Michele Rose her mother says she always new Melissa would be a singer. At the tender age of five Melissa would memorize and repeat the songs she heard on the radio and perform them for her at the top of her lungs. She also claims Melissa would even sing musical scales she learnt for herself that no one taught her before.

Choosing a career in singing wasn’t always an easy choice for Melissa. Her mother a single mom of four; found great difficulty in supporting both her children and Melissa’s music career.  At times Melissa felt like giving up and the unfortunate thing is that she did just that. For two and half years she gave up on music. She stopped writing, singing and dancing, she completely shut it out. Melissa claims the pain of what she had to go through was so much to endure. She fell into a dark depression and didn’t know how to get out.

Eventually the burning passion for music engulfed her, she knew she had to realize her dreams she had to let the music back in which helped to heel her.
