Mel Childs

For New York City- based singer/songwriter Mel Childs, music is one of the most important expressions of self, life, and love.  A Philadelphia native and long-term Brooklynite, she approaches everything with passion and intensity, using life experience to craft music straight from the heart. Her live performance is an intense set of original music that infuses pop, rock, funk, and folk overlaid with smooth, soulful vocals.

The digital release of singles, "Walk On" and "Love Out Loud" represented the debut of Mel Childs as an artist and songwriter. They are part of a collection of songs born out of her experiences of strength, perseverance, inspiration and love set against the backdrop of over a decade in New York City.  The complete collection will soon be released as Mel Childs's first EP, entitled "Love, Mel."

A love of music came at an early age for Mel Childs. Throughout her youth, she performed extensively in various choirs, helping her develop a deep musical appreciation and foundation that spans across the genres of classical, jazz, folk, Broadway, and popular music. It was here that she would develop a keen ability to both dissect and create harmonies, an experience that would later have a special influence on her music.

The driving pop/rock sounds of Mel Childs are a reflection of her past and present. She grew up listening to gospel, soul, and jazz/blues in her early years and later on fell in love with alternative rock, neo-soul and hip/hop. In her adult years, Mel Childs points to country music as a major musical influence.  A broad spectrum of artists have informed Mel Childs' unique fusion of pop, rock, soul, and funk.  And her music aims to take you on a journey that will lift your heart and rock your soul.
