"M*E - I Am"

M*E's inspiration comes from all genres of music, classic hip-hop to country. "I've been known to sit and listen to '50s Doo Wop for hours on end 'cause that's just where my vibe was," says M*E of his influences. This wide range in vibe and mood can be heard in his soulful beats and poignant flow, as he repaints the stories of his life and personality.

Bio

The Low Down:

Born Mustafa Saleem Shakir, “M*E” grew up in the Bronx and Harlem, and entered the world on the same streets where hip hop was born. After getting into trouble on the uptown streets, he moved to North Carolina, still a teen. Here, he absorbed life, and Hip Hop, from a new angle and incorporated this into his ever-expanding lexicon of music and life experiences.

M*E's inspiration and influences may be a bit unorthodox, "I like everything, it's hard for me to say that I'm just in love with Hip Hop and R&B per se. I love Jazz, Classical music, Country, Alternative, etc. It all depends on the mood I'm in, shit I've been known to sit and listen to '50s Doo Wop for hours on end 'cause that's just where my vibe was.", says the artist. Unorthodox?, maybe - but in the end it's all about the flow.

Later, he moved back to NYC, and then LA, where he has collaborated on tracks with Styles of Beyond, Dakah Hip Hop Orchestra (the 70-piece band from LA), Ayatollah, Tash, Phil tha Agony, Dwayne Wayans, and many more.

M*E is also an aspiring playwright and professional actor -- he has written and acted in several plays, and appeared in “House, MD,” “Law and Order,” “Jails, Hospitals and Hip Hop,” and many more.

One of the most exciting live performers in hip hop, M*E is currently appearing with Dakah Hip Hop Orchestra, playing dates around the country.
