"Mean Tangerine brings their own brand of funk, reggae and ska to the digital world with their new release, "Takin' Trains." Relativly new to the London music scene the band is comprised of Jesse Wilks (guitar), Brent Weber (bass), Mike Quinton Carrey (drums) and Max Off (songwriter, vocalist, guitarist). Their eight-song debut CD was recorded by Andre Doucette at Interface Studios. You can check out the bands self-described Bedouin Soundclash-meets Red Hot Chili Peppers sound at their CD Release Party on Thursday, November 15, 2006 at the Salt Lounge. - Scene Magazine (2006)

Bio
It's always been about creating music and having a good time. Mean Tangerine are a 4 piece rock, pop, funk, soul band from London, Ontario that have been around since 2004. Formed when they were teenagers going to high school and largely influenced by the ska/reggae scene (at that time), now in their early twenties, they've played a lot shows, released a fair amount of music, and appeared on a nationally televised music program (MuchMusic). All they would say, are unforgettable experiences in one-way-or-another, that have shaped the members into the band they are today.
Taking their name from a malapropism of John Lennon on the Beatles song 'Savoy Truffle,' Mean Tangerine have emerged in many stylish and sophisticated manners over the past two years. Parts of this emergence stem from natural artistic maturity and an expanding sphere of musical influences, but also a greater respect for the craft, allowing the band to find a more genuine and dynamic chemistry together, when producing their new compositions.
Their first two releases, "Peels" (2009/Drive Records) and "Takin' Trains"(2006/Drive Records) surly highlighted the band's untamed dedication and pure eagerness to make music. Now they find themselves in a much more mindful process of song creation, encompassing not only current influences, including The Black Keys, Bedouin Soundclash, Born Ruffians, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Wilco, but also reaching back into the rich flourishing past of the Motown era, and finding influence in such artists as The Temptations, Otis Redding and Sam Cooke. The band loves to include at least a couple of classic Motown covers in every set, which blends well with their new vintage sound, which they describe as "old-school blues with a modern edge."
In one manner or another, the band's evolution has come to embrace many styles, and while their tastes and exploration in music expands, they're still proud to retain an aspect of it all (past-and-present) in their songwriting. Never forgetting where they came from, and always looking ahead.
