Mayila

Currently residing in Washington, D.C., Mayila, a native of Columbus, Ohio is a musical force to be reckoned with. Her EP "The Movement 2.1" demonstrates Mayila’s knack for songwriting and versatility. Having a broad spectrum of musical interests, Mayila has decided to model her upcoming project after this as well. 

Being from such a small town, Mayila has made it her mission to attain her big city dreams of becoming a worldwide entertainer. Mayila has been dancing since before she could walk and her voice was discovered at the ripe age of seven years old. “Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.” It’s difficult to discern which of these apply, but she has always had a great desire to leave an important mark on the world and is well on her way of doing so.

Mayila began her trek to stardom starring in many musical theater productions including The Wiz (Miss One), Grease (Eugene), and Hairspray (Little Inez) with various theater companies in Ohio. Mayila also auditioned for the Broadway musical The Lion King and performed with a school wide dance troupe After School All Stars. She participated in many local pageants and attempted to make a name for herself in Columbus but soon realized there was limited opportunity. With the support of her mother, she was fortunate to have the opportunity to move to Washington, D.C. to pursue music in a more central location, a move that changed her life.

She then attended the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C. studying classical voice. Many doors were opened as a member of the Ellington Show Choir in which she was allotted the opportunity to perform with Patti LaBelle, Earth, Wind and Fire, Maroon 5, and also perform for President Obama, the First Lady, and VP Joe Biden. 

Mayila's EP "The Movement 2.1" was released January 31, 2016 on Soundcloud and other social mediums. She will be releasing her second studio project soon! Mayila, a dedicated and ambitious young artist is ready and eager to make her mark in the music industry.
