Penrith’s quite well-known for producing some great local talent, whether that be in sport, music or theatre.
And hot local band Mayhem Addition is the next exciting act on the rise.

Mayhem Addition are an unsigned five-piece melodic rock band who originally formed in mid-2008. Guitarist and backing vocalist David Smith formed the band with his mates after jamming together in high school.

“We kept in touch and along the way found a singer and bass player to join the band. Once we did that we started writing and doing shows and that’s the story of Mayhem Addition,” he said.

Later on this year the band plan to release their first EP titled ‘Fortune Favours The Brave’ on iTunes and in record stores, but for now it is currently streaming for free on their Facebook page.

“We wrote all the songs on the EP ourselves and we got a producer to track all the music and polish it up to make everything listener friendly,” David said.

Influenced by huge rock bands like Anberlin and Alexisonfire, Mayhem Addition describes their sound as easy-listening, pop rock with a heavy crunch.

The band in their few short years have played a huge number of live shows around the traps and supported such established bands like Something With Numbers and Mission in Motion. David says there’s nothing better than performing live on stage and having the crowd sing along to their songs.

“For me it’s the crowd interaction,” he said.

Mayhem Addition have recently recorded their first music video as a visual to go along with the release of their EP, and they’ve been lucky enough to have worked with some big names in the industry.

“We worked with a production studio in Mona Vale and they pulled some strings and got some people from Channel 7 to work on it for nothing,” David said.

“The whole production was huge and we did not expect that at all.”
