"Maybe Greys Album Launch - Divan Orange - Jan. 16th, 2016"

Montreal’s Maybe Greys have been crafting their debut full length, Three Mile Bend, for some time now, and finally celebrated its release this past Saturday night at Divan Orange. The first song they’ve released, “I Can’t Come Down,” is a catchy introspective track that fits snugly in the indie-folk world, and offers a nice glimpse of what we can expect from the full length.

Opening the night was Johnny Griffin, the frontman of locals John Jacob Magistery, who are also readying their eagerly-awaited debut full length. In the meantime, the band have a show lined up at the upcoming Montréal en Lumière festival, opening for Basia Bulat at Club Soda on February 18. Tickets for that are available here.

While Maybe Greys is a newly born Montreal project, the music and songs have been in the making for a long time.

Front man and songwriter, John Hale, was born and raised in Calgary, AB and moved to Montreal in 2008 to pursue a music career. A piano player from a young age and a music grad from Grant McEwan University in Edmonton, Hale’s entire life was surrounded and inspired by music of all kinds. His increasing obsession and love for songwriting brought him across the country to be a full time musician. Instead, he found himself at JMSB on the path to an accounting degree and eventually to his dismay, ended up with a government job. Finding himself in a lifestyle opposite of the one he’d set out to create, John left his nine to five to finally dedicate his time fully to music and his craft.

The band have yet to announce any concrete tour dates but with any luck they’ll will be taking it on the road soon. - Montreal Rocks

His increasing obsession and love for songwriting brought him across the country to be a full-time musician. Instead, he found himself at JMSB on the path to an accounting degree and eventually to his dismay, ended up with a government job. Finding himself in a lifestyle opposite of the one he’d set out to create, John left his nine to five to finally dedicate his time fully to music and his craft.

From this, and from years of songwriting, gigging, meeting, and collaborating with other musicians, came his most recent project, the band Maybe Greys. Teamed up with Montreal locals Scotty Potter, Kayla Moran, Bud Rice, and one Ontarian named Erik Fines, Hale hit the ground running with work on their debut album  "Three Mile Bend" that was released in January 2016.

Maybe Greys "Three Mile Bend" is a deeply personal and emotive album about love, friendship, family, work, and oneself. Maybe Greys music could be described as indie-folk with a pop and light country influence with charismatic hooks and refrains, and a unique singing voice joined by infectious harmonies. The songs are mainly comprised of ballads and anthemic indie tunes that speak on a universal level of affection, autonomy, and our day-to-day moments of vexation.
