Maya de Vitry

After graduating from high school in 2008, Maya fiddled her way across the United States, Canada, Ireland, England, France, and Spain. From the streets of Montreal, to the Paris underground, to the sands of Gran Canaria, she found that sharing her traditional music offered an immediate connection to new cultures, and songs became a sacred form of communication while navigating new languages.
In December 2010, she returned to her hometown in Pennsylvania, penniless and deeply inspired. Words had often arrived in her mind riding an inseparable melody, but it has only been in the last few months that she has finally committed to listen more closely to them. Her songs honor the lives and places that have challenged and shaped her world in the past few years, and reflect a childhood drenched in the sounds of Appalachian music.
