The courage and bravery of the participation of the 'showman' tico Mauricio Herrera on the popular U.S. program 'America's Got Talent' is not sized properly from what we see on the small screen: you have to do research on the 'Internet' and see the scenes to appreciate the task.
Interviews, rehaearsals, the full presentations (which improved since the costarrican auditioned in Seattle several months ago, reaching the finals in Hollywood), the reactions of the public, the intimate moments in the artist's dressing room, the fierce criticism , the boos, applause, the endurance ...
In the videos after NBC's racks, it is clear the caliber of the show that Mauricio Herrera "ELVIS" faced live, all in front of Millions of viewers in the U.S. and the rest of the continent.
Besides having gone as far as he did, Herrera-since he was a teen singer in the country has always been recognized foolproof tenacity in his dream to become an internationally renowned artist. For almost 20 years "pressed", half of them as a singer and entertainer in California and Mexican local venues. His choice on America's Got Talent was a big step forward. As he said on the last interviews with this newspaper, there is a before and after his appearance in such a space. How many people will be able to stand in such a scenario the way he did, without being bent knees? The rewards are yet to be seen, but in our opinion the most remarkable is thatt just as Andrey Amador, Lobito Fonseca, Hanna Gabriel, Iride Martinez and others who have stubbornly ticos, uphill, in pursuing their dreams, Herrera is an example perseverance and courage. - TV GUIDE

Born in the USA. . From tico parents and grown in Tiquicia where he became known as The Elvis tico. It will be July 26 when Mauricio Herrera is presented live on NBC's the Reality TV Show, to be among the 16 semifinalists. Hollywood awaits
Was in teenager when begin forming a name industry musical our country.
At 16, he joined the group Banzai, whose presentations had a segment, just for him, to imitate Elvis Presley.
In 1996, his fame as The Elvis tico gained strength, while in 2002, Mauricio Herrera decided to travel to USA. UU. to try his luck with his talent as a show man.
It has been more than nine years into this adventure, which amounted to good times, and others who were not so much.
But his big break came with the sixth season of U.S. reality show America's Got Talent, produced by the prestigious NBC.
After a hit first audition in Seattle, which was supported by the good judge - Howie Mandel, Herrera faced the challenge of a second presentation in Las Vegas.
There, he managed to sneak among the 48 contestants for the live shows in Hollywood, where 16 participants qualify for the semifinal round.
The Tico returns to the scene on July 26, in the third week of the quarter-final stage. The previous Friday, live phone conversations with him about the experience that in reality, as well as preparation for what lies ahead.
How are you living this stage in the contest?
Very happy and excited it is a great challenge. I came looking for the opportunity to expose my talent to a higher level. For years I tried and searched, but I couldn't find opportunities that I needed for exposure.
Did you think you could really get past the first audition?
Yes I was sure that I had what I takes. Years of experience helped. I was worried because I was not convinced with the song at all. I relied on my experience as a show man and entertainer. The last thing I expected was the reaction of people and Piers Morgan (judge), it was a bit rude.
I think that in Seattle you got a bit out of shape ...
I got way overweight and was not ready for something so big. In December I decided to participate, but I had rather neglected, was a little depressed and I decided to take almost the last attempt to make something happen.
And what did you do with the weight problem?
I weighed 212 pounds when I got to Seattle and when I left from Costa Rica I weighed 190. It went down to Vegas for the 206 and right now I'm in 194.
When was the show recorded?
Auditions in Seattle were in early March. Then, Las Vegas were in May.
Why choosing Living La Vida Loca for Seattle?
Because it is a very happy song and I could dance to it. I wanted to expose my energy and smile. The idea was to conquer and be liked Judge Howie Mandel.
How did you feel when part of the audience began to boo?
I'm a professional and did my work as such. No one in my career I was booed. I had to arm myself with so much temper. I felt a sharp pain in my heart I do not understand yet. I felt so much hatred towards me and was something strange and unusual.
How did it feel?
I cried afterwards. I felt terrible, but I understood that was part of a process and part of the sacrifice to be in such a program.
And when Piers Morgan marked the X in "rejected", and then blasted?
Minutes were very tense. At first, I did not take very seriously. He is a great journalist successful in your career. Any comments had to do with his character in the show and the lack of information that was me. I could not take this the wrong comment.
It was certainly an ordeal ...
It was part of what they wanted to do and my reaction was to prove a negative comment. My reaction was simple and was based on thinking that he eventually would realize who I was and I would be respected.
What rescues this audition?
It's my first time working in a production so big and beautiful, but also faced a lack of resources, such as makeup artist, stylist and assistant, which you would get when you get to Hollywood.
Is it more positive?
Make click with Howie and the fact Mandey convince Sharon Osbourne to give me yes.
What took months between the two auditions?
For the second audition I focused on not losing the support of Howie. I thought about taking my redshirt because Sharon has red hair. I wanted to please them. With Piers, had to break the shell. I had to draw on my experience as a show man.
Any downside?
I wanted to go to steal the stage to say 'this is me and I belong here'. The week before Las Vegas fell ill with flu. I could not believe it was the week that I had to wash my face what happened in Seattle.
Back in Las Vegas, did they pressure the knowledge that had no support from Piers?
Yes, but I focused on that, but I had to do something very different. They let me sing a mix to try to make the best of what I do.
Did you feel more comfortable with the song Las Vegas?
I looked if he was ready to astonish them and I said yes. Piers asked me why I was so sure and said he knew music would sing from the heart and that means a lot to me.
How do you remember the time he was called on stage to tell if she continued or not in the show?
As one of the most tense moments of my life. They went through my mind every moment of my career in Costa Rica, Mexico and the USA. UU. It was very distressing and reflected on my face when I got the result. I was very nervous.
And did I came to Hollywood?
Already in my Facebook official contest shall I shared that live on July 26. A week before I have to be in focus with the production, preparation for tests, review costumes and choreography, and so on.
What makes these days before his trip to Hollywood?
It is a preparation as ever, going to the gym every day to reach the optimal weight and be acceptable to the camera.
Do you got singing lessons?
I'm in voice lessons, which had not done for a long time and are very important, because over the years acquired great skill, but the perspective is lost how to breathe for singing.
Will we see in Hollywood very different to Mauritius?
Come prepared to 300 percent. I even paired teeth. It will be a total change. I will be someone else and people will say 'where did this mae? It is released in Seattle! "
But it will be a very different presentation, unedited and live, with an audience perhaps more demanding ...
That's a big advantage. I was in Costa Rica used to going out on live programs. Be the level of pressure that exists. I'm preparing what to say and how to communicate with people to get my message.
Have you been able to talk to any of the judges after Las Vegas?
No contact is allowed with them or with the presenter. We only have communication with the production people and news channel.
If you put in the program what you live?
All my life I've earned my salary at my job, which is singing. I keep my regular presentations to four shows per week. That has helped me stay in shape and improve what I do.
Do you feel that this really is not happening and that is a dream?
I've lived my dream for many years. This is a huge achievement, of a magnitude and a rate that still can not digest. I'm ready for this, since it is the place where I belong, I belong and where no one will feel more comfortable than me.
Are you more famous?
He writes people of Canada. Alaska, Missouri, Miami and elsewhere. The other day I went to the supermarket and when I came to ask for something, the guy who answered was moved around and said 'you are Mauritius, America's Got Talent'. That was unreal and inexplicable. I have trained and worked to achieve this dream. I have the merits to be here.
Say no more than the quarter-end will be satisfied with their participation?
I need to do a good job in Hollywood to say that if I go, I'll do it with their boots on. I need to wash my face and show why I got where I am. We need people to click and realize what they really do.
What will be the key to fighting for a spot in the semifinals?
In every presentation I've done different things. The key is not to change the dynamics of the comic with the side to dance and sing well. Do not change the energy, the smile and the sparkle policy that identifies us.
What do you say the Ticos?
They feel very proud because I'm working as a tico more, far from home, doing something that very few have done as long trying to get the name of the country at high levels. I assure you that if I am one hundred percent with my voice, I will to talk and always will remember The Elvis tico.
What do you think that here, be remembered as The Elvis tico?
Important, because it was what gave me to know and what keeps me going on the show. The production value all the support of the Ticos and the press there. Want and need to put the batteries to give the size and scale to this and please support me.
You went to USA. UU. nine years ago to try his luck. Do you think that it achieved its goal?
Not yet. This is just the beginning of the good. It was hard to mature and develop my character as an artist, singer and man show, allowing me to be at this level.

Originally from Orange, California, this virtual one-man entertainment machine known as Mauricio rose from humble beginningsto become the rising super star that he is today. However, it was his family’s decision to return to their native Costa Rica that allowed his musical talent and career to really blossom and begin to pave the way to the success he has achieved to date.
High school years consisted not only of conventional studies, but also participation in numerous singing festivals, and musical activities including televised events. An inherent connection with live audiences combined withhis on camera appearances inspired this natural-born entertainer to take his aspirations to an even higher level. Mauricio continued to develop his signature style of crooning the classics and covers including popular standards immortalized by Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. He soon became known by the nicknames “ELVIS TICO” (Costa Rican Elvis) and “FRANTICO” (Costa Rican Frank) SINATRA throughout the country. Still in his teens, Herrera found himself performing professionally for a variety of television shows, which greatly increased his appeal and garnered him widespread media recognition in Costa Rica. At age 17, he received one of many enormous opportunities…being hired and mentored by well- known and highly respected artist, PacoNavarrete. From there on, his starsoared to new heights.
Just two years later, this Latino showman seized the opportunity of a lifetime when he became the lead singer and front man for the popular Central American group “Banzai.” This role led to an incredible experience as the opening act for renowned musical artists, such as Enrique Iglesias, Joaquin Sabina, Miguel Rios and Alejandro Fernandez, and others.
