Bio
Matthew Bizzell brings a lifetime of experience to his songwriting that belies his years. Truly a “Bull by the Horns” kind of guy, his original songs reflect this unique stance and his powerful voice and presence back this stance up. Uncommon sound and truth make his songs not only memorable, but deeply personal for his fans. Never one to be locked in to one type of music, Matthew draws influence from styles ranging from classic rock of the ‘60s and early country balladeers as well as Scottish Folk and modern Pop. Matthew and the band garnered tremendous response from their latest performances at MerleFest ’06, drawing new fans from a great cross section of styles and cultures.
Gary Foster has spent years perfecting his craft in several genres of music from Rock to Southern Gospel. Well known in Bluesgrass circles, he performed with acclaim on the main stage at MerleFest in 92. His haunting tenor range lends itself well to ballads and love songs but contains plenty of substance to belt out the Blues and Rock n Roll. Fists of Thunder (yes, there was a Championship involved), the pipes of Gabriel and blazing guitar licks make Gary one impressive musical hombre.
Ah, Shirley Pennell. The face and voice of an angel and the eyes of experience. Her clear, easy alto is made for Country until she digs deep with the power of a gospel choir. She is also one hell of a foot tapper. Shirley started singing where all good girls start… in Pool Halls and Gin Joints but quickly graduated to lending her voice to the church. Her latest performances at MerleFest 06 are a testament to her uncanny ability to move with ease between classic Bluegrass, rootin-tootin Country Anthems and heart achin love songs.
