"I don't usually like the accordion, BUT ..." - The comment overheard most at Dr. Bellows performances
OK, so he's not really a doctor, but he practices the medicinal art of music like no other. Traditional roots with pop sensibility ... and just enough quirk to keep you feeling good!
A veteran of the Detroit music scene and the folk circuit, Mark Iannace (aka Dr. Bellows) has performed in many different avenues ... from contemporary folk, to musical theatre, to vocal jazz.
For the past ten years Mark has been touring with Americana artist Jill Jack as a duo, in the acoustic quartet Jill Jack & The Hopeful Winos, and as part of her full band. He appeared throughout her most recent releases: "These Days", "Sunflower Girl", and "Songwriter Sessions", which hit #6 on the Americana charts in Europe, and the Top 100 in the US. On top of a busy headlining performance schedule, the Jill Jack band opened several dates of Bob Seger’s 2011 Tour.
Previously, as a member of the folk/pop Tangerine Trousers, Mark toured through the Midwest and into the South-East ... featured at venues such as The Bluebird Cafe, The Ark, The Ann Arbor Folk Festival, Legion Arts - Cedar Rapids, Benefit for Alejandro Escovedo - Raleigh, Blissfest, and Hiawatha Music Festival. He was a major force in the 'Trousers' signature 3-part harmonies, as well as sweetening up the pie with a unique accordion style. While with Tangerine Trousers, Mark helped the band win 3 Detroit Music Awards. The bands last CD "Dressed for Success" got strong reviews from Performing Songwriter ("..damn cool!") and No Depression ("an unassuming powerhouse") magazines.
Mark spent a good chunk of time touring regionally and recording with former Trouser-mate Luke Sayers. Their second release, "Radio Flower", won the Detroit Music Award for Outstanding Acoustic/Folk Recording.
Mark has played guest-accordion spots on stage with Chris Stamey & Peter Holsapple (of the dbs), as well as folk songstress Jen Cass. He has also contributed vocals and/or accordion to recordings by a number of Michigan artists including Stewart Francke, Dave Edwards, and Julianne Ankley.
Mark is currently performing select solo shows of his own original music, with a new digital single set for release in July of 2020.
