PORT ST. LUCIE — On Saturday, May 8, The Friends of the Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens hosted a Founders' Appreciation Reception at the new Botanical Gardens facility on Westmoreland Boulevard in the city.
Founders and guests enjoyed cocktails, hors d' oeuvres and live performances by Lincoln Park Academy musicians, who performed inside the Gardens’ Nature Center, and award-winning musician Mark Barnes, who performed at the lakeside open-air amphitheatre. Barnes is the recipient of the 2008 Hollywood FAME and 18TH Annual Los Angeles Music Award for Music & Cinema, and the 2009 Soloist of the Year Award at the 19th Annual Los Angeles Music Awards.
The reception was an opportunity to show appreciation to the founding members whose generous contributions helped to provide the initial funding to launch the 20-acre Botanical Gardens project. The well-attended event provided many their first opportunity to stroll the beautiful park-like facility.
Select video filmed during the event will be used in the upcoming full-length docudrama movie production entitled "City of Dreams,” celebrating Port St. Lucie’s 50th anniversary that will occur in April 2011.
The evening's festivities were funded by corporate sponsors. Funding for the botanical gardens itself is from a conservation trust that does not come from taxpayer dollars, but from developers who have offset the loss of environmentally sensitive land within their projects.

Mark Barnes, ThE BaD BoY oF ChilL OuT!
Award winning composer and musician, Mark Barnes, ThE BaD BoY oF ChilL OuT, is set to open your third eye – musically speaking. The titular track off his release “The Awakening” will fulfill the promise of the title, as will the rest of the CD. Barnes ambient electronica is a refreshing rush of chillout goodness, opening up amazing soundscapes that connect the ears and the mind’s eye with lush melodies and organic wholeness often missing from the electronic realm.
“Awakening” is a keys based and deeply moving track. Its keyboard line and the overwhelming beauty of its background river of ambient melody make a sky full of clouds in the human heart. It equally embraces classic piano music flavors and cutting edge new age glory. Elegant and absorbing, “Awakening” is a sure-fire hit for the chillout scene.
Barnes’ music has been featured in numerous magazines and web sites, including EmmeK New Age and New Sounds Magazine (Dec. 2007) and AMMA AnR (Aug. 2007). He was a top 20 finalist in the instrumental category for the 11th annual edition of Unisong’s International Songwriting Contest and was the featured artist for October 2007 on the “Pulse of the Planet” radio program. Additionally, Barnes was awarded the 2008 Independent National Artist of the year award from the Phoenix Music Awards and was a performer as well as the recipient of the 2008 Hollywood F.A.M.E. Award for Music & Cinema at the 18th Annual Los Angeles Music Awards, and the 2009 Soloist of the Year Award at the 19th Annual Los Angeles Music Awards.
Barnes music is regularly played on Mystic Age Radio, Mystic Soundscapes Internet Radio, 93.7 WGYL FM in Florida, the Cygnus Radio program and I-Tunes New Age Internet Radio Station. His songs have been selected for several compilation CDs.
The artist is busy working on new music at the moment, as well as re-mixes of other artist’s electronic works. Future projects include a Christmas CD by Barnes and a collaborative album with Daniel Hicks of the Black Raven Group. He is also in the process of researching digital animation and live action video to couple with his music. “The goal is to combine the two for a live stage performance similar to the ‘Mind’s Eye’ video series and Animusic video,” where people can come see the music, he explains.
Barnes is a member of the Hollywood, CA Chamber of Commerce, and an Associate Member of The Recording Academy (LA Chapter). More information is available at www.markbarnesmusic.com. Booking and licensing information can be obtained by contacting Mark Barnes Music at barnsey@markbarnesmusic.com.
